From an atmosphere perspective yes it is pretty similar to Kona though it is tucked away behind the main lobby in its own space vice right in the middle of the action.
We have never done lunch (though the menu looks great) but both breakfast and dinner have been solid for us. It's certainly not a signature but on the upper end of the table service places.
So far, I've had some breakfasts at The Wave, and will try dinner next trip. Food there is quite good. Décor is full of waves. There are no windows. Does not remind me of Kona Café.
I love The Wave - we usually eat breakfast or dinner there. I haven't had lunch there in several years, but the last time I was there for lunch it was quiet, the service was great and the food was delicious.
We tend to eat breakfast there mostly, but went once for lunch while waiting for our room to be ready at BLT. Lunch was very good! I too consider it a hidden gem
