Lunacy at WalMart

Okay... I wanted the new Zumba game for Wii for Christmas, but it was never in stock anywhere. So this morning I'm on WalMart's site looking for something else and decide to see if they have it. It's not available online, but it's listed as in stock in my local store. Since I had to go out anyway, I decided to try my luck, sure that the listing was wrong but what did I have to lose?

So I get to WalMart and lo and behold it's there. There's only one in the case (my guess is it was a Christmas return). So I get the guy to get the key and he gets it out for me. As we're walking to the register to pay (and he's telling me how lucky I must be since they haven't had it in stock since early Dec.) this woman comes running up to us.

"Gimmie one of those!"

"Sorry," says the clerk, "This is the only one in stock and this lady got here first."

"But it says online you have it in stock."

"We did, and this is the only one."

"But I saw it online! I demand you give it to me!"

Now, I'm just standing there quietly letting the clerk handle it, but getting a little peeved b/c I just want to check out and get on with my day.

"Ma'am, I'm sorry. But this lady got here first, this is the only one we have and she's buying it."

Crazyness turns to me.

"Give it to me. I saw it online, listed as in stock, and came right over. It should be mine. You have to give it to me."

"I did the same thing," I said. "I guess I live closer than you do." (probably wasn't a smart thing to say, but good grief.)

Then the woman calls me a bunch of names I can't print here and demands a manager.

Manager comes over, toting security, clerk explains story to him. Woman demands manager give her the game and that she will "report him" if he doesn't. She threatens him will all kinds of boycotts, tells him walmart is bait and switching, and calls him a few names, too. He tells her there's nothing he can do, then turns to me, "Unless this lady would like to give it to you."

At this point, I'm just fed up. People are staring and we're getting a crowd. I turn to the manager, turning my back on crazy woman and tell him, "Honestly, I probably would have just given it to her if she'd asked nicely. It's not like I'm desperate for this thing. But she's kept me here for 30 minutes now with this tirade and I just want to buy the thing and get out of here. And I want her detained so she doesn't follow me to my car. Frankly, she scares me."

So the manager takes me to another register while security holds the woman somewhere else. I pay for the game and another security guard walks me to the car. No sign of the woman, thank God. The manager was super nice about the whole ordeal and even gave me $20 gift card for the trouble.

Good grief. All this over a video game. I've never been involved in anything like this and I never would have expected it two weeks after christmas. Two days before christmas, maybe, but now? I think the woman was quite possibly really crazy.

That is all sorts of crazy.:scared1:

Another episode of "I" am entitled to what I want and the world must conform to me and only me. It is so sad. I wonder what she is teaching her children. You wonder how the world will be and what will happen when those kids are adults in the 'real' world.

Good grief! I'm glad you didn't give in to her.

:rotfl::rotfl:I am cracking up over here...what a nut job!! Glad you got your game...I would have been tempted to laugh at her and be all "guess I'll head home to Zumba now"

She pulled a good "Veruca Salt"!

Did you consider selling it to her at a premium outside the store?;)

Oh, my gosh, you think they let her reproduce?

I honestly do not know what to say. Glad you stuck to your guns and didn't give in to her bullying. That is entitlement to the 500th power. :scared1:

I think it's more likely the woman has genuine mental health issues. This is not normal or usual behavior (and I've worked retail!).

Dayum!!!

That chick is all kinds of crazy!

Good for you for standing your ground AND having her detained!

I can't believe the manager put you on the spot like that "unless this lady would like to give it to you" If you did you would have 30 minutes ago!

The problem started when you walked into walmart ;). It's all kinds of crazy in there.

:scared1: Good gravy ...

It almost reminds me of the Cabbage Patch Kids lunacy back in 1983! I am so happy that you didn't give it (Or give in) to "Crazyness" (:rotfl2:). Seriously though, it seems as if she has some deep-rooted issues. Glad that you made it out of Walmart safely.

Happy Zumbaing!

I am so glad you didn't give it to her!

I wanted a the Zumba game for Christmas but didn't get it.

Have you played it yet? How is it? Inquiring minds want to know!

Yikes!

Add me to the list of those who are glad you didn't give her the game. It was smart of you to ask for security to help in making sure she didn't follow you to your car. She doesn't sound stable at all. Scary.
