Lumberjack show in EPCOT to be "axed" after the holidays?!

I'm sure cost was a major part of the calculation, but really these sorts of shows should be changed every one or two years. They're not a primary draw (for the vast majority of guests) but are an easy way to keep the world showcase feeling fresh.
Well heck Mulch Sweat and Shears just left DHS after over a decade.

Yes and I know some people were very upset about it, but to me that shows a problem. These groups shouldn't be there so long that people form an emotional attachment to them. These elements of the parks should be like a variety show, constantly changing.

Of course in that case, they don't seem to have replaced them with anything else at all...

The same could be said for attractions tho. Tons of people loved horizons and still do yet that was taken away, many also liked the animation academy at DHS and that was taken away, and many liked snow whites scary adventures but that is now a meet and greet. I'm not disagreeing with you but your point can be taken many ways.

Well generally speaking the attractions are a larger scale investment. You'd expect them to stay longer for that reason alone if no other. Those sorts of things are built with the intention of being a "draw" and attracting people to the park in the first place. The musical entertainment is just supposed to be an extra distraction once you are already there.

Agreed. A bar is something that you expect to survive relatively unchanged in a city for a few years or decades. But do you seriously expect that the same band is playing there every time you visit it, for 20 years?

The most popular bands at WDW should get maybe a 5 year run. Or less. If they can't find another really good band to take its place, with different repertoire, different style and different costumes/jokes, then they're just not trying.

Is anyone keeping score? Is there an overall trend toward live musical acts being either removed and not replaced, or else replaced with either a downsized musical act or with a non-musical (and possibly lower-cost) act?

Mulch Sweat & Shears, gone. Off Kilter replaced with a stunt show that may pay a lower rate especially if the performers are not unionized. Four for a Dollar, gone, not replaced. British Invasion, gone, not replaced. What else is either new, or gone?

Well, British Invasion was replaced by British Revolution which is playing several shows today.

Also, the acts in Morocco, Italy, and China were all replaced. It's too broad a statement to say they don't replace acts.

How about axed before the holidays...

The Canadian Lumberjacks posted on Facebook that their last show is 11/24.

So they only have one more day. Wow, I wonder what the long range plans are now.

Good to know.

I hope the Revolution is done with a bit more flair than the Invasion was. I thought the Invasion was musically good, but they could have done it with more wit and comedy. Such as bantering in the form of satirical impressions of the Beatles, Stones, etc. and using wigs and simple costume changes etc. to make it more funny and visually appealing. Kind of like an SNL sketch combined with the musical act.

Hopefully to update the Canada film with an awesome new immersive movie experience, replace the lumberjacks with a rotating roster of the best Canadian folk/ethnic/pop bands, and build an amazing and thrilling water-based simulated voyageur canoe ride across Canada. With free health care at the end!

LOOOOOOLLLLL

Some of the Mulch members are going to be playing holiday music on the "Off Kilter" stage. The band name is the Canadian Voyageurs. So far they are playing on Dec. 5 and then again on the 18th

I would LOVE to see that show go. maybe bring in canadian singers and dancers. We have some great singers! (AKA NOT Justin Bieber)

Any idea on future entertainment in the Canadian pavilion? Now that Holidays Around The World has ended, there is nothing currently listed.

I recall some discussions/speculations surrounding the original axings and act substitutions. And one of those discussions was about what Disney would do if one or more of these new acts (specifically the lumberjacks) proved to be unpopular. One scenario was that Disney would simply not replace them, and that they were deliberately putting in lower caliber entertainment so that their eventual absence wouldn't be missed. We'll see soon if this is proven correct. The cynic in me wouldn't be surprised.

Well look at that. Rotating entertainment. You know... like it should be. :)

Well, the cynic in me was wrong! They've announced a replacement for the lumberjacks. And they are actually (French) Canadian. http://www.disboards.com/threads/its-not-off-kilter-but-definitely-not-another-lumberjacks.3473766/

Axe and you shall receive!

Should be a nice little show. This kind of music is fairly popular in French Canada (not just in Quebec), covered by everyone from semi-electric "pop" groups to families singing at parties and reunions. The lyrics are often quite witty and a little bit bawdy ... not that anyone except a French speaker will catch on.
