HELP!!! I need an idiots guide to luggage. We have paid for extra luggage (30kg each). Does this mean that if my case is over :rolleyes1 but DH's is under, that it doesn't matter as long as together they don't weigh more than 60kg??? :confused3

OH MY GOODNESS only THREE days to go :thewave:

Im not 100% sure but I dont think they let you do that. Could you not cram more into your dhs case?

they dont usually combine the suitcase weight. if yours is over 30kg then you will have to pay the excess. but if your dh is under they will let you move some into his! save you paying it then

maybe we were just lucky but they have always gave us the overall weight i.e. 20kg x 4 as we take just have two cases and two small bags . :confused3

why not telephone the airline just to be sure

Just remember that any bag can not be over 32kgs due to health and saftey.

Unless its been a very quite day and you are the first to check in with no one behing you, they will not combine the weights.

Why not split some of your items up into you DH's case? (also makes sense in the event your case goes missing). Or take 2 bags for your things.

Whenever & Wherever I have travelled by plane the weight had always been a comination of all cases travelling in your party.

For example this time around there were 9 of us on our flight and 20k x9 = 180k the check-in lady weighed all our cases, some were over and some were under but as the total was under 180k there was no excess. I have never had to transfer stuff in another case.

Whenever I have travelled it has always been the combiend weight, with no single case over 32Kg.

This is an excellent tip - we ALWAYS split our things across the suitcases just in case one goes missing then we will both have something to wear... don't think DH2B would look so good in my clothes... :rolleyes1

Hiya

We split our cases too, we have 40kg each and I just know I am going to take as little over as possible as I am doing the entire christmas shop over there lol

whats this about nothing over 32kg??? :confused3

Due to work place health and saftey, baggage carriers are not allowed to lift any bags over 32 Kgs, due to this most airlines (all) will refuse to allow a single bag over this weight.

How will they know its 32kgs? because of those bright fluro tags that state 'heavy xyz kgs'. These usually start at about 20kgs.

You can still have the 40 Kg, it is just that is cannot all go into one case. There is now a maximum weight per case of 32 Kg which is very strictly enforced.

Most airlines that we have used it's a combined weight but as mentioned no case is allowed to be over 32kg due to Manual Handling Regulations.Or if you fly scheduled it's 2 pieces of luggage per passenger,so in our case 180kgs of shopping!!
SD :paw:

Again, we have never had any problem combining the weight of cases, provided each is under 32kg.

When I travel alone with dd aged 6, she obviously can't manage to pull anything bigger than a trolley case, and I can't manage to pull two suitcases, so we have often have one bag weighing 30kg, and the other only about 8, on an airline with a 20kg per person limit (BMI).

FYI some airlines are now reviewing and adjusting their piece allowance (downward), in an attempt to reduce their spiralling fuel costs. Still 2 pieces but now 23kg each, rather then the previous 32kg. Anyone with only once piece but more than 23kg will be charged the excess baggage fee.

:) Chris.
