Luggage

I'm driving to Universal. We'll be gone from home for a total of 21 days...so I have a lot of stuff for my family of 5. Last year, we stayed in Disney at AS Music, which is really a MOTEL. I packed our clothes in laundry baskets and carried it from the parking lot to the exterior door of our room. And I didn't care what it looked like...probably like I just got done doing my laundry I guess. The baskets were handy later in the trip when I did actually do laundry.

At Universal, we are staying at the Hard Rock ... and my laundry baskets now seem kind of trashy. Plus, they don't have a lid. I don't have enough luggage for our clothes. I was thinking about buying luggage but frankly, luggage doesn't fit as well in the mini van as the laundry baskets do. So, I was thinking about rubbermaid storage tubs. Cheaper, fits better in the car, probably holds more and I can use it for something after the trip. I do have one foot locker which I can lock valuables in.

The only thing holding me back is I don't think our room is likely to be ready when we arrive around 11am. I was planning to check my "luggage" and head to the parks.

Will I be able to check my plastic storage bins? Or are they really unacceptable?

Could you just leave you bins in the car until you are able to check into your room? Check anything valuable but leave the clothes in the locked car.

@123SA is your 21 day trip at the HRH or is it a split stay? If it's split, you could always purchase luggage (even soft-sided duffels would work) big enough for the HRH stay and put everything else into bins for the later part of your trip.

It will go on a luggage trolley, in the storage area behind a desk. I'd say just use the bins, unless you are planning to buy luggage anyway. I've seen worse, and who cares what others think :D

I'm worried about stuff melting in the heat -- makeup & toiletries, if we buy breakfast food

One week at Hard Rock Hotel, 2 weeks at Disney. Large duffel would fit better and be cheaper than luggage. I may look into that.

I'm pretty sure I would tell my kids not to worry about what anyone else thinks, so I really should follow that advice.

Duffle bags, for sure. Heck of a lot easier to carry too. And store in a small hotel room.

How about putting the meltable stuff in a large cooler of some sort and just having them store that.

Hmmm...I'd have to think on that. We have an overnight stay before we get to Universal, not sure how practical that is.

Good news is duffel bags are a lot cheaper than I realized if I go with the wheel-less ones. My son has been lifting weights all summer. He should be good to lift these heavy bags.

Do you have a costco membership? They had some nice wheeled carry on duffles for a pretty decent price.
