We will be going to Disney for the 1st time this September.
We need to buy new luggage- I was thinking about buying 1- 21" carry on & 2- 25" suitcases to check. Will this be enough luggage for 6 days for 2 adult & 3 kids?
What brands of luggage do you recomend?

Luggage is luggage regardless of the brand. My DM has LV luggage. If you ask me, she paid way too much for the LVs on the case. I have Samsonite..have for years, quite sturdy, nice color not to blend with all the blacks you see at luggage claim. Go for something that will sand out and not be confused with other people luggage.

I think 21' may be too big for a carryon..check with your airline.

I am also a family of 5, 2 parents, 2 teens and one 4 yr old. 2 cases would not be enough for me, though I pack for every occasion in the world. Sept. tends to be a bit rainy in FL, I would bring raincoats or at least rain ponchos. They can get expensive if you buy there. You may want pants and long sleeves for night. Are you going to any nice dining places? Bring at least one dressy outfit for each...sweatshirts, bathing suits, sneakers, dress shoes, sandals, sun lotion, hair accessories, hair products, camera, video camera, first aid stuff, medications, plus of course under garments and clothing for 6 days!!

If your kids are small, their clothes will be small and take up less room. I will still go for the 3rd, if not 5th case. Most airlines allow 1 suitcase per person before being charged..take advantage. There may be souveniers to bring back too.

We bought a 3pc lightweight set of luggage (Ricardo brand, I think?) from Costco for $100. It is nice quality, very light... On our last trip, 3 bags for three people was almost too much space but it was also nice not to worry if we wanted to bring a few extra things back we would have no trouble fitting it in and also not worry about going over the weight limits.

Don't get bags that are too big because you only have a 50lb limit per bag and wowza! if you go over the weight limit on your bags the fees can really add up. We can never fill our biggest bag up (it's a large suitcase but I don't know the size offhand) - if we filled it up with just clothing, it would be well over 50#. I recommend getting smaller bags and not filling them up to the hilt. The weight of the bag is included which is why I recommend shopping for lightweight bags. We also bought a small Travelon brand luggage scale so we can weigh our luggage for the return trip to make sure it's not overweight. It cost less than $10 (@ Radio Shack, but I've seen Target carry them too) and with the fees airlines are charging now, and the fact that they are really cracking down on overweight bags and such, it was a good investment for us imo.

We have the Rolling Adventure duffle bags from L.L. Bean and love them! When we travel we are able to fit tons of stuff for our family of 4 in 3 of the large sized. The bags are so lightweight to begin with that we don't go overweight either...my old Samsonite bags weighed a ton before I even packed them! They are super sturdy and durable, and L.L. Bean also has a lifetime guarantee, so you can return the bag if it ever gets damaged. HTH:)

I do not remember the exact details, but this may be worth checking into...in addition to the 50 lb limit I think the size may be limited as well. I think it's called oversize bagagge charges.

Also in my opinion, I would purchase luggage with good seams that can handle overstuffing and lots of cramming. I wonder this ever time I zip mine, : ) But do not spend a lot of money, have you seen how they throw your luggage around??
