Curious as I'm about to go on my first ABD that involves as domestic flight between two cities- how is the baggage handled. Do we have to porter it ourselves and check at counter individually or do they take care of all of it. I remember on the London Paris one they took care of all of our luggage on the Chunnel train and we didn't have to check it or carry on board

Which trip? It depends on the trip and the destination. They each may have their own quirks and requirements. On the China trip, they handled most of it, except on the flight from Hong Kong to Mainland China. The answer would depend on which trip and which destinations.

I haven't taken that trip, so I can't answer, but I'm sure there are others on this board who will be able to answer your question for the Australia trip. (Unless the flight is new for next year or something! I know they've massaged the itinerary.)

It's for a current trip - on the plane from my home airport (IAD) to head over for the adventure that starts Sunday
Oh, my! Well, enjoy your trip!! You can now ask the Adventure Guides when you meet them on Day 1!! They will definitely be able to answer your question.

Have fun!!

Check your Baggage weight Before Check in

Could be about 23 Kgs or 56 Lbs Per Person

Should be on your Ticket Or Info pack

Once again, you are not answering the question. This has nothing to do with whether or not ABD will handle his checkin during the internal flights or not. And he's already on his trip, so the weight answer is pretty irrelevant anyways.

Please read your reply Post 8

I read it that Jason Martin was still at home

and my reply was aimed at not having luggage overweight Before leaving on the first flight from USA

Post #5 OP said they were already on the plane...

Thanks for the response and now that I'm on the trip I can answer. For Australia the hotel takes care of the bags from the room to the airport. Once at the airport we had to take our own bags and check them. For Jetstar which they use for Cairns to Melbourne it's a 20kg (44 lb) limit. For Melbourne to Sydney it's VA which is a 23kg (50 lb) limit. Upon arrival in Melbourne one guide went ahead and got the porters to help with the bags while we and the other guide stayed back made a bathroom stop and snack stop. Once we were at baggage they asked one rep from each family to go over and confirm all bags were there. Then they were taken to our hotel and placed in our room prior to our arrival

So since most airlines allow you 50lbs, what happened if someone had a checked bag on Jetstar that was over 44lbs? Did they tell you before you left home about that issue? I've never had to check internal to an ABD where the weight limit was lower than normal.

Going off an older trip report, luggage was collected from the rooms and brought to the airport by AbD. Then everyone had to check their own bags at the airline counter. Some people did pay fees for extra or overweight bags. After checking bags, everyone brought their own carry ons through security and on the plane.

After landing, AbD helped everyone with picking up luggage, and porters brought it to the bus and to everyone's rooms in the new hotel.

The ABD handbook clearly indicated a 20kg (44 lb) limit for domestic Australia flights so we knew. Each family was required to pay if over. We were pleasantly surprised that the second flight had the normal 50lb we are used to. We ended up buying most of our souvenirs in Sydney and a new suitcase with 50 lbs of souvenirs and an extra small duffle with toiletries and shoes.
