Luggage Weight Restrictions?

DH and I weighed our baggage at home to be sure we were under 50#s. We were close, but under. BUT...we bought so many souvenirs and never gave weight a thought! We were 5#s overweight and DH was NOT going to pay the excess fee. Sooooo, I was one of those poor unfortunates who had to rearrange our suitcases right there on the floor in front of the counter (and all those peering eyes of the folks in line behind us!) I'll never make that mistake again.
BTW....if you fly first class, most airlines allow 70# per bag. That was a nice perk, but I don't always feel it's worth the extra $ on shorter plane trips.

One helpful point, if you can't weigh your bag before you arrive at the airport.

Once the power is on at the airport customer service counter, all of the scales power up -- even the ones that have no one working at that station. Before you get into line, you can always walk up to an unstaffed service position to use the scale to check your bag's weight. That way, you can avoid the awkwardness of trying to shift items around when the agent is waiting impatiently to check your bag.

The wheels do take up space as does the handle. That said, I would rather give up the space then lug that stuff around it's a trade off. (And once again do you need that space? It's Orlando not the jungle!)

Helping someone pack for a 3 week Africa safari as I type. One duffle bag, 44 pounds max! By the time he's done, he'll do a week at WDW with just his freedom baggie.

Sounds good to me. I did 3 weeks in Europe with a 22" rollerboard. Don't know how much it weighed, but I could lift into the overhead so I figure not more then 30 lbs or so......

:worship: You are my hero!!! Sure do wish I could get the rest of my family to see the sense in this kind of packing!!!!

Let me just say thank you for this thread. If I had not been reading this board, I would have been paying the fees or buying a new suitcase at the airport. My DH received a Samsonite 30" roller as a gift, and I would not have dreamed that it would have been too big to use. I have been all over the restrictions for the carry-ons, but it never occurred to me that our big suitcase would have exceeded regulations. Thanks again to all of you experts for steering me in the right direction.
