Luggage Weight Question...

We are flying out of Halifax, NS (Can) via Orlando through AirTransat but chartered through CanJet..

Well their Luggage Allowance states that they go by weight issues rather than the # of pieces of luggage..baggage must weigh a total of 44 pounds(including the luggage bag! *ack*).
(so 2 pieces of 22pounds each or 1 - 44 pounds)

I am looking for advice/suggestions on how to pack for a 7 day trip to Florida for our family. Seems like the luggage bag will be at least freakin 10 pounds alone! I thought of dressing as light as possible..(shorts/under garments/light t-shirts or halters (for me)/ use the resort shampoo (we are staying at Pop) and just bring my conditioner), minimal make-up) crocs weigh nothing really..

If we go over our limit of 44 pounds we have to pay $10 cdn per kilogram over..eek!

Any suggestions would be greatfully appreciated!

Purchase at least one duffel bag.. No wheels. No frame. Jeans weigh more then dockers. Consider not brining any health and beauty aids. Buy it in Orlando.

The 24" bag is probably the right size, 30" bag will work if you're careful not to overpack it.

Wear your heavy clothing. Jeans, sweater, heavies shoes. jacket.

What is your carryon limit? Size? Weigh? Max it out.

edited to add the Eddie Bauer store (many outlet malls) also has lightweight duffel bags. Price is OK if you catch a sale.

We travelled that airlines out of halifax last year. Luggage weight really stinks. No so on the way there but I usually shop for my grandkids and myself, so on the way back we have to be careful. You can still use a 20 inch carryon I think, and it can weigh 20 pounds. Coming home our luggage was over by 17kg. They then weighed our carryons and they were under so they just warned us and let us go, but the charge now is $12 per kg. that can get pretty expensive. If travelling with them again, I would mail home my own clothes and just put the new things in my checked luggage if I was over. UPS is very reasonable to ship home. Better than the airline charge and they can be pretty sticky about it. I never pack jeans, they are too heavy, only one sweatshirt, lightweight clothes and minimal cosmetics. We don't even take our own pool towels anymore.

Usually weight limits are per person, not for the entire group. So if there's 4 of you going (for example) you can bring up to 4 bags, each being a maximum of 44 pounds.

I'm sure the weight limit is per passenger. Older suitcases can weigh 15-20lbs empty.

As long as your empty suitcase doesn't start at 20 lbs you can pack for a week in a 44 lb bag. Shoes, jeans, books and big bottles of health and beauty aids are heavy.
