I am a little confused about how to get our luggage to the port. We are flying in the morning of our cruise and are using a towncar service to get to the port. If I put on the luggage tags supplied by DCL in our cruise docs, will our bags be intercepted and go straight to the port, or will we still have to get them and take them with us. Thanks in advance, I was reading that it was done both ways. I just assumed we were responsible for them.

BTW, we are flying US Airways.

If you've purchased the DCL transfers, then they will handle your bags in the manner you've described. If not, then you are responsible for getting your bags to the port. There's probably an off-chance that if your bags have the DCL tags on them that they'll get taken anyway, but you havnen't paid for it, so there are no gurantees. I'd claim the bags and then put the tags on them before checking them curbside at the port.

I was told that if we had the tags on the bags they would be taken behind the scenes and show up at the port the morning of and if you came in late the night before they may take them also. This was by our TA. So who knows.

We flew in the night before and kept the tags off so we didn't have to worry about it.

Flying USAIR we checked our bags on the return trip at the port and got our boarding passes right there. I have now heard that you need to use DCL transfers to take advantage of that.

My understanding was that you had to have the transfers, as baggage handling is part of their price. I've since heard that if you spend the night at the Hyatt and tag your bags and leave them outside of your room in the morning, they will be transferred regardless of whether or not you've paid for the transfers. However, I haven't heard this from anyone who actually works for DCL.

We always stay at the Hyatt the night before and take the busses. We claim the bags when we land and don't tag them until the morning of the cruise, so I have no first-hand experience with any other method of getting to the port. When we get our docs, they spell out exactly what to do with the bags, including claiming them on Friday night and not tagging them until Saturday morning.

I guess you have to do what makes you comfortable. I personally wouldn't count on having the bags transferred unless I've paid for it, since I'd really have no recourse if they didn't show up. What could I say, "how come you didn't transfer my bags for free!?!" For me, it's worth the effort to bring the bags out to the towncar to make sure they sail with me.

I plan on claiming my bags and putting the tags on then. I just wanted to make sure since it would be easier to have them move them if that was the standard procedure. However, I didn't pay for thier transfers so I wasn't expecting this. I wouldn't want to show up at the port and have my bags still circling the baggage carousel at MCO :( . Thanks again.
