Is there an easy way to transfer your gear between properties if you wanted to do a split stay, or do you have to check out, take all of your stuff to the next property, etc.?

Would be awesome to check out of one place, leave your luggage with the bell desk in the morning before heading to the parks, and have it "magically" appear at another resort when you check in after a day of park hopping. Anyone have any idea if this is a service that Disney offers, free or otherwise?

Check out at 11:00 AM, have Bell Services transfer your luggage to your next resort. Only cost is a tip or two.

Wow, that could not be easier. I didn't really think a split stay was realistic, but if you don't have to take a break from your vacation to lug your stuff between resorts, it could be very doable. Basically leave one resort in the morning, tour for the day, and return to a different one.

Thanks!

I think that I read that you will have to call for your luggage at the second resort once you check in. They do not deliver to the room while you are out, like DME does. They will even move your food and keep the cold stuff cold!

We've done it and made arrangements the night before and set a time for them to arrive to pick up the luggage. The cost is the tip on both ends. Keep in mind that when your luggage is transferred to the new location it is not brought to your room. After you check in and actually get a room, then you have to call and have luggage delivered while in your room to receive it and to be able to tip the service on the second half of the process. You could be without your luggage for the entire day, so you should make sure you have everything you need.

When we did the split, our luggage couldn't go to our room until we checked in because they didn't know what room we were in. We told them at the front desk about our luggage and it was pretty much taken care of. Like said above just a tip or two.

We have also had the resort transfer our luggage or recently we have found that we just like to get a direct taxi from the resort to the second resort and take our luggage with us.
(Depending on the amount, we often can take it ourselves without having to tip.) This helps offset the taxi charge, usually about $15.

Depending on our agenda...sometimes we need to check in early anyway at the second resort if we are on the DDP so that credits will begin immediately.
Or sometimes we check out late, go to the other resort and swim until our room is ready.

We have had to wait - until sometimes after 6 pm for luggage to be transferred by the resort when changing.

We have ALWAYS done split stays and we just bring our bags to bell services the morning we check out of one resort then retrieve them from the new reosrt that night. So far, :rolleyes1 we've never had a problem.

Here is what I do:

1) at least one person goes to the new resort very early - as soon as the busses start, or even earleier if you have a car. Check in to new resort - if there is a room that was vacant last night in the class you've booked, you'll get it. If not, it still gets it out of the way and gives you a great chance for any special requests that the front desk can make happen.

2) at least one person calls for Bell Services (preferrably before 11 when everyone is doing it!) and gives them the bags. Note they have walk-in fridges to keep items cool.

3) If you have kids, might want to head to a park while that's being done. Remember not to pack anything you might need before that evening (like swinsuits, medicine) so you can take it in a day bag. I suggest the park closest to the new resort.

4) When you want to leave the park (or when the room is ready if it wasn't when the first person checked in) just go to the new resort.

Very easy. If you are uber organized, you can even pack by resort to quicken the packing (i.e. second resort stuff all in certain bags or at the bottom of bags).

Those are great ideas! We are staying 1 night at OKW, then 7 nights at BLT, then 1 night at WL and I didnt know what we were going to do to get the bags from one place to another. Thanks for the great tips!

We called Bell Service tha day before. They arrived at our room at 7am & took all nine bags. We headed out to AK . Checked into our new resort around 2 & bags were delievered by 4 - couldn't have been easier!!

The only down side is that you may be without a room until after 4pm. That is not great if you want to take a nap or swim.

We like to spend our first night at POR and then move on to our DVC resort. We pack our overnight bag to get us through our POR night and into the next day. When we drive, we just leave the new resorts luggage in the car. Then we drive to the new resort, check-in and deal with the bags then.

When you fly and change resorts...you just get your bags to bell services (you can take it to them, or they can come get it) and then go straight to a park if you want to go to a park. Cool!

If you want to swim before your room is available or your transferring luggage has been received at the resort, it is easy to pack a swim suit in a small backpack. Towels are available at the resort. A lot of resorts have a dressing room available for change. So you can swim while waiting to get into your room.

I believe that the luggage that is transferred to another resort is usually at the new resort no later than 3 PM. Bell Service usually can give you an estimated time that the luggage will be at the new resort.

Sorry to OP...don't mean to hijack your thread. I'm curious what is the going rate for tipping?

Disney will transfer your luggage from one Disney WDW property to the next with no charge. We just call bellhop in the morning and they store it and deliver it to the next resort. We have done this many times with no problem.
