How long does it usually take for luggage to go from one Disney resort to another? What if it is going from a moderate to a deluxe resort? How early can you have your bags picked up to be transferred? How secure are the bags during storage and transfer? Is it easier just to transfer resorts either by cab or by Disney transportation?

Wow, what a beautiful picture. Well here is our experience, yes your luggage is secure. It was at least 7 hours from the polynesian to the yacht club. They will start picking it up and hold it for you anytime. Now can they find it? Well that was a horror story with our family and it ended up with a missed day of swimming and crying for little ds. Hint: Take anything that you definetely want or need for the day in a small backpack/bag etc. This year we did the taxi transfer from poly to swan. No tears and happy happy happy family and right into mgm etc. I have seen others post that luggage transfer starts at 3 p.m. if disney does it.

luvmarypoppins,

Thanks for your response. I'm kinda different when it comes to hotels/resorts. Before I can relax and have fun, I need to unpack my luggage and put everything away. I know it sounds like I'm a wee bit of a neat freak, but more that all of that is done and not wanting to do it after a long day at the parks. I do know that there is a better than even chance that my room won't be ready when I get there early in the morning, but to at least get through the check-in stuff and know my luggage is at the resort when I go back, makes me relax. How much was it for a cab from the Polynesian to the Swan? I'm going to be going from Caribbean Beach to the Wilderness Lodge and am guessing it would be pretty close in distance. I was thinking about taking a Disney bus to the Magic Kingdom, then grabbing the boat over to the Wilderness Lodge. Do you think they would have a problem with that? Can you bring luggage (I have a rolling bag that fits in the overhead of the plane -- no waiting for luggage at MCO) on the buses/boats? The day I move is on an early entry day at the MK, so the buses usually start around 7am or so and would prefer that over a cab (unless it's really cheap).

This summer we checked out of the WL, sent our luggage to the GF, and it was there in about 2 hours.

According to our travel agent, you simply call the bell station and tell them what resort you are going to transfer to ... they pick up your luggage and she said it should be there by 3pm or so.

Of course, then you hear the horror stories. I'm still trying to convince my DH to transfer in the middle of our 11 day stay. He isn't very receptive yet but I have until the middle of October to get him excited about the idea. However, the cab thing sounds much better than the hotel transfer. Ummm...something to think about.

In August we stayed at POR for 6 nights, then had our luggage sent to POLY for 2 nights, then on to the Beach Club for 2 nights. Our luggage was there each time by 4 p.m., all 10 peices of it and we even sent some disney bags full of souveneirs with no problems at all. When we called to have it sent up to our room, it was there in no time!

We're splitting our stays in Dec. 4 days at the BWI & 4 days at the Poly. We are planning on using the luggage transfer & I hope there isn't any problems. Just doing it ourselves with a 1 year sounds like a lot of trouble. We'll just keep our fingers crossed :bounce:

Well since you only have 1 suitcase then I would say you could do the bus thing and then the boat. Just make sure you are not on a crowded bus that already has tons of people and strollers etc on it. The boat over to the WL was never crowded everytime we were on it. My DH said the taxi and tip was less than $15, but our luggage was huge so that was the best decision for us. But save your money for food or shopping if you only have the one suitcase. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

We had our luggage (two suitcases, two carry-ons and one grocery bag) picked up in the morning at CBR. They gave us a claim check and told us the luggage would be at AKL by 3:00 PM. We showed up a little after 3:00 PM and our luggage was there and our room was ready. Just remember to take things that you might need during the day like sunscreen, swimsuits, medication etc...

Thanks everyone for your help with this. I've switched resorts before, but always when I went with family who rented a car. I learned 2 trips ago not to overpack when I head for WDW. During my last trip I left MA dressed for the cold, so all I had to pack was shirts & shorts. I did end up bringing a box of stuff home with me of souvies and I think the next trip, I'll just ship it home. With just the one small suitcase & my backpack, I think it will be easier just to grab a bus to the MK, then either a boat or bus to the WL. I know it will be early and my room most likely won't be ready, but this way I know everything is there and if I'm able to check in before 4pm, I know I can grab my bag and unpack.

Thanks again everyone!!!
