We are going to need our playpen on our trip since we are staying off site and the home we rented does not provide anything for our youngest to sleep in.

Can pack and plays be considered "checked" backage?

Also, our oldest daughter (6) still sits in a highback booster and I was really wanting to check that too and not have to carry it on the plane. Can you check car seats? If so, do I need one of those car seat travel bag things, or can I just check it as is?

Thanks for an advice you can give us, I have never traveled by air with the girls.

Yes you can check both. I do reccommend some kind of box for the carseat, though I have heard of some people just throwing them in a garbage bag to check.

We have a spare carseat that I use for flying. We now have a carseat travel bag but before we had one I always checked the seat "as is." Never had a problem.

When we traveled to WDW in 2002, my middle DD was still using a high back booster seat as well, but we could not use it on the plane (only for use with shoulder belts, which planes do not have). I went out and bought a backless booster for her and it was small enough to pack in a duffle bag that we were able to check as luggage. The backless booster I got was for children weighing from 30 - 80 lbs (same weight range as the high back). It was very inexpensive (I think around $15 at Walmart) and was much easier to travel with than the high back booster. Maybe you could do the same instead of getting a travel bag for the high back booster.

Have you considered renting a pack-n-play or crib from A Baby's Best Friend (www.abbf.com). I used them in Jan for a crib and stroller and their stuff was VERY clean and a great convenience! You'll have luggage for the 4 of you, 2 car seats, stroller, and 2 kids to keep track of at the airport....I would rent!

Also I found this great carrier for a car seat. PacBac It sits much closer to your back and so it is much more comfortable than one of those bags. I was able to use it for my baby's car seat and I put a backless booster and cooler in the baby's car seat and carried it all on that backpack. I had actually purchased a Graco booster for that trip that could be used with or without the back. We used it without the back for the trip and have the back attached now that we're home.

we rented a fridge from abbf and everything was perfect. The airlines will give you a nice bag for your carseat.
