My husband and I are very different people. I am the Rule Follower that always has my luggage ready at precisely the right time, my husband...not so much. He says that they will pick up your luggage no matter what time it gets out in the hallway. Curious to know if someone knows the 411 on this subject. Any horror stories I can scare him with? Hahaha

I know we were running late one night and our stateroom host knocked on our door to ask if we were putting our luggage out. There is a little leeway but you need to remember that your stateroom attendant has a very busy day the next day. They need to get what sleep they can rather than having to wait to see if someone is going to get around to putting their luggage out.

Just off on Friday...luggage that was sitting out in the hallway at 11:30 pm was see the next morning in the ship at the gangway for whomever to claim. I assume it was moved to that location so the hallways were clear for people to disembark. Please place your luggage outside in a timely manner so your stateroom host can get some sleep prior to stripping all of the rooms the next morning.

Our SR hostess was pretty clear on the fact that our luggage needed to be out ON TIME. I actually left dinner to get our luggage out on time. I also took pictures of it in case a bag got lost. It turned out that one did get placed in the wrong area and the people in the luggage holding area were able to identify it quickly by the picture.

They might.

But it's not very kind to the stateroom attendant. They are the ones who are taking care of this, and they probably would love to get some sleep instead of checking for luggage all night long.

We lost track of time one night and didn't get ours out.....they never came after 11 in our experience. Deadline was 1030.

Typically, if your bags are not out by the specified time, they will not pick them up. They don't patrol the passageways all night looking for luggage. They have no way of knowing for sure that you didn't put your bags out by the correct time because you're carrying it off yourself (which you will be if you don't get it out).

Our last cruise, if it wasn't out by 10 40, it didn't go. on the last day, I basically throw everything into the bags that I want to leave in the hall except for what I'm wearing, pjs, clothes for the next day and all of our shampoos, creams, etc. so it's pretty easy and quick to pack. Im done before the first show since we eat at late dinner. I packed up for four people like this...no big deal if you don't care how nice you pack. I either wash all the clothes or send to the dry cleaner anyway when we get home so I'm not concerned about wrinkles. I keep a couple carry ons in the room for those things I keep with us and take them to breakfast. Then when we pick up our bags I simply put in all the stuff that I csnt or don't want to take on the plane. This is why I would never check my luggage thru from the cruise. I have too much stuff I want to repack before it goes to the airport.

We were having trouble with a zipper on one suitcase our last night. (Eventually got it closed, but had to cut it open when we got home.) Stateroom host was asking us if we were putting luggage out around 10'ish. We told her the situation. Finally got it out around 10:45. It was taken, but I'm not sure it would have been if she hadn't know it was coming and she was doing us the favor of waiting. We loved our stateroom host.

I'm not sure there are "horror stories", per se. If you don't get the luggage out on time, you might luck out and your attendant might still grab it for you just to be nice. But you also run the (much more likely) chance of having to schlep all of it off the ship on your own the next day. Not sure why someone would open themselves up to that possibility if they didn't have to.

We have taken our own bags off for each of the past three cruises. It is not an issue at all. Very easy to roll it off and I can pack at my leisure and not have to put a bag out and have an extra bag for the last night. I think that it is a personal preference. So if you don't get it out on time it shouldn't be a huge deal because you can take it off yourself.

Everyone's preference and situation is unique, I guess. My wife and I have three young kids, two huge suitcases and several smaller ones to wrassle. Simultaneously herding the kids and handling that luggage from stateroom to car sounds (to me) like an extremely aggravating way to disembark (which is already a bummer in and of itself).

This exact same thing happened on our first cruise! My dh left dinner to run up to our room to make sure the luggage was out BEFORE the cut off time and when we went to pick it up in port the next morning one suitcase was not there, found in a different group a little ways away. We didn't take a photo of our luggage but I like this idea and will definitely do that for our next cruise. This time we were able to locate that 'missing' suitcase quite quickly because we were one of the last groups to be called off the ship for disembarkation so by that time the majority of the luggage had already been claimed.

We were the first group off after the people the carried off their own luggage. The terminal was PACKED with luggage when we were in there.

Well, I adore onboard airline checkin for the times our trips have allowed that, so it *would* be a big deal if I didn't get bags out and we had already signed up for, and anticipated, that. :)

One thing that hasn't been discussed is breakfast. For those on second feeding... you get to sleep in and get the later debarkation breakfast. I prefer this as I have a table and food while I'm waiting for my debarkation time.

However as you are eating... you need to have vacated your cabin. As a result, the dining room staff ask you leave your luggage at the entrance to not block the restaurant aisles. Don't remember if the luggage is stacked, but I remember it was congested as people had to walk around all the large suitcases.

On our first cruise DW wanted to wait until the last minute to put out her suitcase so she could pack the clothes she wore to dinner that evening. We had second seating and enjoyed socializing with out table mates so we didn't get back to the cabin until about 10.45pm. The stewards were just lugging away the last bags in the passageway as we arrived. I asked our steward if I could give him another bag and he was OK with it, but I could tell he didn't want to wait for it so I just grabbed the bag, locked it, and gave it to him. DW ended up packing her dinner clothes in her carry-on anyways. Since then, I make sure our suitcases are out when we leave for dinner.
