Luggage tags if not taking ME bus?

Hi, we're leaving next week for a trip with the in-laws. MIL is flying down with us, but FIL is arriving earlier in the day and will be renting a car/not taking magical express. Would we be able to give FIL one of our extra luggage tags so he doesn't have to wait for his bag before he goes to the car rental?? It's not really a big deal if he has to wait, but if they'll take the bag for him it would be one less thing to deal with.

Has anyone done this before?

I suggested reading the (long) sticky about doing this: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1144360. I'm sure people have done it, but it's generally not recommended.

Will the rest of you be riding the bus? If so, not a big issue. If he is just getting a rental car and then you are all on the DME bus, it will work just fine.

On our last trip we tagged all our bags for DME but didn't take the bus we rented a car the bags were delivered to our resort as scheduled....with 3 kids 2 of which are under 3 yrs it made the airport much more manageable
