DH and I will be traveling to DLR with a group of friends (adults only) the end of January. We part from the friends on Friday and they leave to go home while we planned an extra day at DLR. Our big problem is that we don't have anywhere to store our carry on luggage. Where is the best place to store 2 carry on bags for the day??

Edited to add - we are NOT staying near DL so we don't have the option of storing our luggage at a nearby hotel. And, we will have access to a car when our friends are still with us, but they are leaving Friday morning and we are leaving Friday evening. We know we can take a cab or shuttle from DLR to the airport, luggage is the big hold-up right now.

Where were you staying. Many Hotels will allow you to store stuff after checking out for the day.

How are you getting home?If renting a vehicle, rent it early and use the trunk. Or maybe just rent a car for the day, and return it at the Airport. (All the major Rental Car companies have an office close to Disneyland.)

has there been anything official about what will happen to the picnic area lockers once the security zone expands?

are they currently available?

As previous poster mentioned...almost any hotels will store your bags before check in and after check out time if you are staying close by.

We do that all the time...check out, store bags with hotel then head back to hotel later that night to grab bags before headed home.

I see your problem. You are leaving the hotel and losing the car and then spending the day at Disney. I am not positive but I am pretty sure when I have stored bags after checkout at DLH and GCH that the bellman had no idea of whether I was a guest in the hotel or not. I would want someone to confirm that before you count on it as your strategy.

My husband did read on a Reddit thread that DLH will store luggage for free. He's emailed them to see if that's their policy. Hopefully that's a good resolution to the problem. Thanks. :)

I asked at DLH and they needed a room number and absolutely refused to take my bag when I couldn't give that.

But I was early enough that I went through DTD to get to the picnic area lockers before security set up for the day. (So convenient for me; but sounds like such a horrid security situation, wow)

Will carry on luggage fit in the picnic area lockers? I've read that it won't, but would rather have the info from someone who has done it before.

According to Tom at the Disney Tourist Blog, Desert Inn & Suites (across the street from Disneyland) has coin opperated lockers that he has used to store his luggage even while not staying as a guest at the hotel. You can read about it here. (You'll see a picture of the lockers about halfway down the page.)

Thanks for the link Rose! It's a great option. :)

It totally fit in the picnic area. Full carryon size, soft-sided, Rick Steves bag. I think I squashed my soft "personal item" bag in there, too.

Only negative is that the largest lockers are the ones that tens to sell out first, especially in the Esplanade location if it is busy.

We have used the lockers at the DI&S after check-out on our last day in the parks. Have plenty of quarters. We were able to fit two carry-on bags in one locker there.

On Monday, I had asked a CM at the GCH if it made a difference if we were staying or not for storing our luggage on our last day. They said it didn't matter at all.

So Tuesday morning we checked out of our non-Disney hotel and took a cab to the GCH. At the GCH we got in the line for luggage assistance, Bell person asked if we were arrival or departure. It has to do with how they store the bags. They loaded our bags on a cart and gave us a tag. When it was time to head for the airport we got our luggage, they waved up a taxi and we were off the LGB. Work very nicely and was so easy.
