Luggage questions?

This will be my first cruise on DCL (have cruised other lines years ago). From what I understand, the procedure is to drop your luggage off at the terminal and keep important things, swimsuit, etc in a carryon with you. Will I be able to drop off the carryon bag in the room prior to the time it is ready or must I drag it along to lunch? I've also read that sometimes luggage does not arrive in time to dress for early dinner. I really don't want to take all those extra clothes in our carryons. Would it be possilble (or possibly goofy) to board, eat lunch, etc then go back to the car in the port parking lot and bring luggage to room later? Can you even carry on all of your luggage or does it have to be screened differently? We're only doing a 3 day, so won't have much...

Thanks!

You've got it right. I would not worry about your checked baggage. In 14 cruises, ours has always been in our room in time to get dressed for early dining. If it doesn't make it, just go to dinner wearing what you wore when you boarded. I wouldn't put dinner clothes in with your carry-ons on the off-chance that your luggage is late, and I wouldn't bother going back out to the car. I'm not sure if that's even allowed.

If you plan on swimming or using the hot tubs on the first day, then pack a bathing suit in your carry-on. If not, don't bother. We sometimes are able to dump our carry-ons in our room before the rooms are officially ready. Lately, we haven't bothered, as we keep the carry-ons light, just a book, iPod, valuables, etc. A small backpack at most.

We have never had our luggage arrive after dinner. To save room in our carry on bags DH and I wore our swim suits under our clothes. It was great to have lunch and then go straight to the pool and relax.
