Hi All!
BF and I are travelling to WDW for 5 days. We have luggage but nothing that I think will hold 5 days worht of stuff...I know we can break it down into 2 suitcases, but we always seem to bring more home then we actually go with. So, I'm thinking of buying a new big suitcase and then have a smaller one for carry on (we have DME and want some of our stuff with us)
So, here is the equation:

2 adults for 5 days-I am sure we will pack for 10 days. There is nothing worse then coming back to the hotel, showering and then having to get into something that you've already worn...

So, what luggage do you use? What size? What is most durable? What is middle of the line?

Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I prefer a 24" Ricardo Bevery Hills luggage. I've flown with it many times, and it's incredibly sturdy. My cat used her claws on it one time, and I thought it would be ruined; I can't even tell where she did it!
For you however, you'll need at least a 26", but most likely a 29". I don't like to carry a 29" because they get too heavy, but if you want to only use one luggage between the two of you, I'd look at the 29". Also, it's very easy to go over your 50 pound limit by the airlines, so watch what you're packing.

I use to sell luggage, and these are the things I know, and would tell other people. What I'm refering to is the middle of the line luggage, which I feel is perfectly good enough. I doubt I'll ever buy top of the line, because as well made as luggage is today, there's no need to pay so much more hehe

1. If you want to buy the cheap luggage (less than 100 dollars) then you get what you pay for. It's commonly called "one trip luggage" among those who sell it, and even those who buy it. I've had the reps come out and refer to it as one trip luggage. Those 3 and 5 piece sets for 80 dollars? Yes they're cheap, but by the time you get off the plane, they're destroyed.
2. My two favorite brands are Ricardo and Travelpro. Travelpro was created by a pilot, and is really made to withstand traveling. However, on the same level, Travelpro is quite a bit more than Ricardo, and I think Ricardo is just as good :)
The material used on the outside by each is exceptional, and the corners have an extra boost to them to keep them from getting damaged.
3. If you don't find a Ricardo or Travelpro (or want another brand), or find something on Clearance, here's what I look for. And don't knock clearance, I just got a $300 piece for $30!
*Look for a luggage that's originally priced around 260-300 dollars. I know people think you pay for name, but it really does make the difference in luggage. You can often find these on sale for 50-60% off at places like Macy's, and sometimes you can find them even cheaper!
*Look for an outside material that's like ballistic nylon (I prefer denier ballistic nylon). Look at how tight the weaving is on the material. Is it tight and shiny? Or dull and loose? You want tight!
*Look inside to make sure you get the right features. One thing I like in my luggage are the removeable pockets that I can use to throw my toiletries in. Ricardo's that I've purchased and sold all had a plastic bag that attaches to the luggage, and unattaches when you want it to :) Love that feature!
*Feel the bottom of your luggage from the inside. Many types of luggage don't pad the bars that hold it together. My luggage all have a bit of padding there, so if something hits it, it won't break. Yay! And hey, I've transported a ton of glass items, and never had them break :)
*Look at the different compartments. One of the best features of Ricardo is they have a "Dirty clothes" section, which has plastic on both sides instead of cloth. This allows you to put those dirty wet clothes in an area that won't get the rest of your clothes or items dirty! Yay for that!
*Check out the garment bag. Many different luggages have a section inside the luggage to hold your suite tops, etc. The Ricardos have that section as something you can remove and hang up in the closet. It's made to generally fold in 2 or 3, depending on the side. If you look at the piece itself, they usually have padded sections where it folds and to hold it in place, and then a zipper enclosure to keep the clothes neat. I can't recall what other brands have this, but I really do like it. Other luggages just have a piece that folds and another piece that goes over it to keep it in place, and that doens't work as well. The clothes fall out and get wrinkled asap.
*Check the corners. They should be reinforced with SOMETHING. The stronger the reinforcement, the better. Travelpro and Ricardo each have a hard plastic around every corner, and this keeps it from getting banged around.

I guess the biggest thing I cannot stress enough is you DO GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR. Just remember that; if you want to take a shortcut and go cheaper, you'll end up buying new ones constantly! I've had my luggage for 4 years now, use it frequently in flying, and it still looks brand new. The only problem is where I had a lock on one of the zippers (NOT locking them together at all, it was just hanging there) and the FSA busted it off and put a note in it saying that I'm not suppose to lock my luggage! I've had my luggage sit out in the rain and I picked it up completely soaked. I was afraid everything inside would be wet, but it was completely dry :)
one thing I've seen that seems interesting to me, but I was done selling luggage by the time this came out, are the wheels that rotate 360 degrees. If I was buying another piece of luggage, I'd definitely look into this luggage and see how I like it :)

That was a lot of stuff, but I hope you get at least one thing out of it :) Good luck with your luggage!!

I was with you last trip. Got everything into one large suitcase. Then, I almost got banged for a fee at the airport because it weighed too much. Had to take some stuff out and put it in a carry-on and my other bag. Will not travel via air with that bag again. Use two bags. Even though you have the same amount of stuff, you won't get charged in 2 smaller bags.

LOL!! We have that same brand and have had REALLY good luck with it. I just thought no one else had ever heard of it! We got it at a "discount" store ("Tuesday Morning") and have flown with it a lot - including its getting lost and taking an extra trip with us! I bet for two of you you could either get a 19" each and probably just do a big carryon together. Or, to save money, pack in one larger one and then each have your own carryon. (Before kids my husband and I have tried both of these with good success.)

Have fun!!!

I'm glad someone else has heard of this! I always look at the new editions that come out each year, then wait for the clearance at the stores to buy it on the cheap :) It's my absolute favorite luggage, and has held up so much better than any other luggage I've had :)

Another plus to having 2 suitcases instead of 1 is you can split your clothing into both of them. Then if one is lost by the airlines, you will still have some clothing in the other one.

I'm planning on having 2 suitcases...so no worries there (1/2 in one 1/2 in the other) so we dont have to worry about that.

I looked at travelpro and wellI would love a piece of that but not for the tune of 300+ dollars...I cant afford that...

I found a ricardo beverly hills for $100...originally $240-now that I can handle...plus free shipping...I'll have to look into this...
This is the one I'm looking at:

http://www.ebags.com/ricardo_beverl...suiter/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=50373

What do you think?

then I found this one-but its only 22inches...

http://www.ebags.com/ricardo_beverl...aboard/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=14987

but then I found this one...
http://www.ebags.com/ricardo_beverl...ullman/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=58151

**I think this one is better...

some of these are 22" the other is 28"...now we ARE bringing another suit case...I dont know how big it is...its the size that you can bring with you onto the plane and still be able to stowe it in the overhead compartment (does that help?) So, could I go with the 22 and be ok with it?

Decisions decisions...this sucks

That 22" one isn't a good one (This is bordering on a one trip luggage set...it may be called a two trip luggage!), and i personally wouldn't get the 28". Even tho it's the brand Ricardo, look at the original price. That's consider their low end luggage. I know that we're always told to not pay attention to price, but in the case of luggage it really is a good idea of where they rate it, low, medium or high. Get an original price of at least 240, the closer to 300 or even over, the better. And remember...original price. If you find it for 30 bucks, YES YES YES! :)
I don't know exactly how much you want to spend, but here's a great 24"

http://www.ebags.com/ricardo_beverl...suiter/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=41178

And a great 22" inch, if you want that small..
http://www.ebags.com/ricardo_beverl...suiter/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=41172

Also, check out the materials. You want a denier nylon (assuming it's in your price range) because it will last sooo much longer.

The first one you linked, the 21"? That was along the lines you are looking for.

And check out the cool stuff!

# Constructed of durable 1682 denier ballistic nylon
# Fully lined interior
# Roomy main packing compartment
# Suit compartment features a hanger loop to hold hanger in place and cross panels to hold hanging garments in place to reduce wrinkling
# Removable shoe pouch lets you keep shoes separate from clothes and other contents
# Removable toiletry pouch keeps toiletries organized and removes easily to transport toiletries to bathroom etc
# Rear zippered pocket is great for travel documents and reading material
# Push-button locking handle system makes bag easy to maneuver
# Smooth rolling wheels

Denier Nylon (YES!) Fully lined interior (YES! Remember what I said about breakage?! This heps prevent it) removeable shoe pouch and toiletry pouch (LOVE these babies), Rear zipper pocket for travel documents (hey...mine is too old to have this, NOT FAIR but total YES)

The Ricardo Solutions are great, but on ebags are running about 160 for a 25" still. The Ricardo Mariposa, Mission, and Solutions are their good mid-level, best ones. Stay away from Ricardo Essentials, Serengeti and Huntington's if possible. I think however, that a 24" is the minimum size you want for a 5 day trip, if you want to bring back stuff. It seems large, but they aren't. You can fit about...oh let's say one change of pants, 7 changes of shirts, the toiletries and the night clothes and a towel in a 24. If you want more room, I'd suggest a 26. I have both a 24 and 26", and those sizes seem the most useful to me. If you can get it in a 22" inch, more power to ya baby!! I also like a couple changes of socks though, just in case :) I doubt I could pack what I needed in a 22", cause they're kinda small...and I don't pack very much for a female! You're probably looking at getting the same amount of stuff (if not more) in a duffel bag as you are a 22". A better reference would be this: Most carry on luggage sets (the biggest they allow) are 20" and 21". So a 22" is just barely over a carry on!

If you're trying to do just carry ons...remember those overhead luggages are small, you can't put ANYTHING in the outer pocket if you want it to fit...and you'd only be able to bring a couple changes of clothes. If you're able to wash your clothes, that may work.

Thank you bunches.
This is soo difficult for me (why didnt my parents buy me luggege when I graduated college I'll never know)
I really dont want to spend more than $100 give or take a little...if I go over by 25-30 $ I'm not complaining b/c I can get free shipping..which works just as well for me.
W/ the ricardo stuff do I have to use the garmet bag part? we have a garmet bag and we arent going to need it for this trip...that is the only problem with some of the bags...they have these flip top compartments that just make packing look...difficult.

If 22" is just slightly bigger than a carry on then I'm going to have to go with a 24"...so the $125 one just might have to work...
We have a couple of duffles from eddie bauer that we usually use...but when I think of all we are going to pack...It just might fit with no room to return with stuff...well that doesnt work b/c lets face it-this is Disney!

Thank you for all the help...I'll keep you posted!

I tried to use a 22" as a carry on. The airline made me check it. Can't remember which airline.

hi! I love my 24", so if you go with that I think you'll like it. Of course, remember I said I pack lighter than most girls hehe! But I am able to fit my clothes (see above) and a towel. If I didn't bring my own towel, I'd have that much more room.
As far as the garmet bag goes; it's removable. There are two snaps that lock it into the luggage, and you just unsnap them and take them out. I sometimes take mine out, but I've gotten into the habit now of putting my shirts in the garment bag, and then I have more room in the main compartment. It's very small, and not at all like your big rolling one. You can also remove the shoe bag, AND the toiletry bag if you don't want to use them. I like the toiletry bag though, because it's plastic so when a bottle erupts or something, I don't have shampoo everywhere! I had a leaky bottle once, and was so glad I had that bag :) I guess it'd be the same as a ziploc bag, but about twice as thick.
Tip on color: I didn't like red luggage, and went with a green one. Wow was that a mistake! Everyone had green and black luggage haha. The next piece I bought was red, and now I find mine right away :) If you want to find your luggage, get the crimson!

I think you'll like that 24" bag though...I'm drooling over it right now. It's a REALLY nice piece of luggage, better than the one I have now, actually... I need another one of those....right?
Oh, and click on the pictures, you'll see what I'm talking about with the garment bag. The one they have hanging out shows you what it looks like, and I really like that they do the extra zipper; it just keeps things nicer :) Under the picture that says interior view....you see the top pocket that snaps? That's on the outside of the garment bag, not attached. You'll unsnap that, and take out the garment bag. There's also that extra little pocket that I use constantly for socks and other things :) Really nice handles on that bag, too...Man, I really need another 24"...really..

of couse you need another 24" bag right? dont we all...I'm a bag junkie...I havent found a bag I dont like!!! thats for certain!

Ok I'm going to check out a couple more options and see what I find...
Thanks for all the help!

As far as lagguage goes this is what my DH and I do. We use the Magical Express which only allows you two check in pieces each. I went to Walmart and bought two of the largest suitcases the airlines allow (they are on wheels). I put 1/2 and 1/2 in them in case they get lost. Than my husband and I each carry on one piece each. We have plenty of room for the "goodies" for the grandkids. Also I do some laundry while we are there during our 11 day stay. If you roll your clothes up they won't get too wrinkled. I take metal hangers that I can leave there when we come home. Enjoy
