Luggage problems

Hi everyone,
Don't know if you can give me any advice.
We are a family of four dw, dd(3) ds(7) and me!, first time cruisers.
We will be staying at WDW for 15 days prior to our cruise, and afterwards going down to Vero Beach for a week (in total almost a months vacation!)
As you can imagine, we have a lot of suitcases. Just wondered if there is any alternative to taking all our luggage onboard( could we transfer 2 cases directly from WDW to vero beach?)
Please no comments about not taking so much stuff, you know how us brits are when travelling over the pond!.

We stayed first cruise for 10 days prior to the cruise and then 3 after it. I rented a car and left all the stuff and suitcases we didn't need in the rental car trunk. No way was I taking all that stuff on the ship with me LOL!

We arrived about a week prior to our cruise. On Friday night we checked a few suitcases we didn't want to take with bell services at OKW. They were there waiting for us when we checked in after our cruise.

I know bell services will transfer luggage between WDW resort. Whether this service extends to Vero is a good quiestion. Perhaps you could call your resort and speak with bell services directly.

Just wonder if you really need so much luggage. We are flying out the week before our cruise and staying the week after in timeshare. All of the resorts have washer dryer facilities and we pack light (tongue in cheek) and wash as we need it. Just a thought. Even with grandchildren in tow that has not been too much of a problem.

We too were at WDW for 5 days and then a 7 night sailing 2 years ago. We each packed 2 suitcases and had WAY TOO MUCH!!! DDs had their "special" outfits that we ended up washing.....

The cruise line also has luggage limits per person..so you would definately have to find something to do with the extra luggage while you were on the cruise.

We find packing lighter and using the laundry/dry cleaning facilities both on the ship and at resorts is much better than lugging all that luggage around. We only wear our favorite clothing items anyway..everything else just sits in the suitcase.

I would definately reconsider the packing lighter issue.

One of my grown up daughters said you do not need any more luggage for 3 weeks than you do for 1 week. Feel she is right about that and since then have been much more careful about packing. Pack light, use the washing facilities and have a great time.

I don't think the cruise line is tight on their luggage limits....we had way over the two bags per person...and no one said a thing to us. We were just given additional tags at the curbside when we handed everything over to the porters outside the terminal. So in other words you can just about bring on as much as you wish...

But...

You will want to keep in mind that once your on the ship...you'll have to deal with all your extra bags...the rooms don't accomadate alot of luggage...and there is not longer any place on board to have them stored.

hey i am not a brit just a woman that has many bags, our next visit in total will be 22 days so this is what i decided we are going down 2 days prior
have a rental car if you can, if there is a lot of baggage we are packing only that needed for the cruise into like two cases and leaving te rest in the rental car, is there some type of storage place that can hold the rest of your bags unil you get back

I was just reading in the travel section of the paper today about luggage transportation services.

I wish I could copy and paste a link to the article but it appears that my papers website has not been updated with the latest travel section yet.

They listed services that have pick up and delivery within the US as well as internationally. This may be an option to have your luggage picked up from WDW and delivered to Vero Beach when you are scheduled to arrive.

Perhaps you can look into the companies listed below and see if they have services to help you.

I will try the virtual bellhop service to see if they can help, otherwise will have to try and persuade dw to 'limit' our packing!!

Must be a one way thing. My mom went to Europe for 3 weeks with nothing more a large carryon bag, no checked luggage. She took a little detergent for washing personal items, and used hotel laundry services for bigger items.
Cost her about $50 US over the three weeks.

You are after all the nation that in Edwardian times would go to India and Africa with that china - but DCL will provide it and Orlando isn't India. Ever see the play "On the Verge?"

Call Vero and see if they can store your bags for a week, if you aren't renting a car and can toss it in the trunk. I will agree with the general sentiment - try NOT to bring more bags on the ship than you need to, or you'll be walking on them.
