Luggage on Magical Express

I just spoke to Disney and the CM told me that I can't take my own luggage on the Magical Express. Has anyone done so? Or does anyone know if thats right? I would feel more comfortable picking up my own luggage at the airport and taking it with me on the bus.

Thanks!

I just did this less than 2 weeks ago and I was with a bus full of people with several others doing the same. I actually done it 3x with zero problems. Maybe they thought that you meant "on" the bus as in, inside the interior of the bus and not stored under the bus, which is what they do. HTH :)

You're very smart to ask questions here. Not every person will get every answer right, but you can bank on the fact that a CONSENSUS you get on this board will be an absolutely correct one.

The CM was wrong. You are permitted to take your checked luggage with you (as a previous poster said, UNDER the bus).

As for me, I LOVED having my luggage handled for me. I already allowed the airline to take it 1000 miles, so I didn't fret about Disney taking it another 20 miles.

For Disney bound guests, Magical Express reserves the right to recheck ("gate check") your larger suitcases at the welcoming area for transport on trucks and automatic room delivery. This is not common but could occur during busy times.

I have never heard of or seen that. In fact, during busy times, having the luggage on the bus would help, not hinder DME. The VanHool C2045 has huge luggage bays that can hold luggage for all 55 pax if needed.

To answer the OPs question, YES, by all means, you CAN take your luggage on board the bus. The driver will store it underneath the bus during travel. Just remember that when you handle your own luggage, Disney does not cover gratuities. (When you have Disney handle the luggage, only the inbound Bell Services gratuity is taken care.)

I was able to grab my own luggage from the carosel and bring it on the bus, this was October 3rd. It actually gets loaded by the driver under the bus but no problem at all.

If you are leary then call the ME # again and ask a different CM. If you don't have it I can find it later today.

I was told that if "on the rare occasion that my luggage could not be loaded" I would have the option of sending my luggage with auto delivery or having priority on the next bus with my bags. Since these same buses served (serve) Mears customers who must pick up their bags I can't imagine this happening in more than an isolated incident.

I think the OP can plan to get his/her luggage and not worry about this.

Just a question, would this hold up the other passengers if you are waiting for your luggage? I personally love the idea of having someone deliver my bags to my room without having to stand next to the carousel waiting. I am just curious as to how this would work.

When we used ME 2 weeks ago I saw several people who had retrieved their own luggage and brought it to the ME bus.
Personally, having ME transport our luggage was a joy. It magically appeared in our room, before we did. When we checked in at 12:30 our room was not ready. We called the number they gave us at 3 and the room was ready. We headed back from Epcot and when we arrived in our room for the first time our luggage was already there.
Just remember, if you do decide to pick up your own luggage in Orlando, DON"T put the ME tags on the bags. These are the key to the luggage being pulled before it ever reaches the baggage carousel.

No - it dosen't affect other passengers either way.

If you are sending your luggage with ME you skip the baggage and go to the ME counter, check in and wait for your bus. When the bus arrives for your resort/resorts and fills off you go.

If you are getting your own luggage you go to the carosel first, wait for your luggage and bring it to the ME counter and check in.

So while it will take you longer to retreive your bags and then check in, it won't affect other ME passengers.
