The past couple of years we have traveled with carry-ons. We each have an American Tourister Splash in different colors. They are 21" and fit everything we need for a week+. Seriously we did a 7 night cruise and 2 days on land with just our carry-ons and had room to spare. not taking them on this next trip only because we have to pay for bags (even carry-ons!) so just taking my bigger one.
My favorite regular sized piece of luggage is my Jansport 25" rolling suitcase - don't bother looking they are discontinued
I check online every couple of months to see if I can get another one (and get my heart broken when I can't find it anywhere but on Ebay and they want outrageous amounts of $ for a used one). The original I got on Ebags years ago, it has been on too many trips to count and still look like new. It also has a funky design that makes my bag stand out against a sea of red, black, and blue bags.
Only reason I mentioned that bag is because it is a great size. In that 25" bag I can pack for both DD and myself for a week at WDW - which is what I am doing today as we leave for WDW on Saturday - w/o having to sit on it to close or unzip the extra panel to make it bigger. Do not get a bigger bag, it will just make you think you can pack more than you need and it is easier to go overweight with it. Spinner wheels are nice at the airport - but they break, and they make your bag bigger and heavier. My bags all have inline skate wheels and I have never had any problems with them and they roll just fine.

Totally agree! I thought I was the only one that did not like spinnersI don't like spinners. Too easy for the wheels to break off and they can make a bag too long to fit in the overhead bins on planes.
