Luggage Help Needed for China ABD

Does anyone have information regarding the luggage restrictions for the China ABD? We are going on the Christmas trip (aka heavy winter clothes) and Disney sent an email saying the carryon limit is 15lbs and the checked limit is 44lbs (and total dimensions of 54 inches!). Is that true? I have tried to do some research on the individual airline sites for the 5 internal China flights we will be taking and I cannot find any airline with the 54in limit. (I'm seeing 79in.) Does anyone have experience with 'western' luggage sizes? Is it better to pay for oversized luggage or overweight luggage? Please help! TIA!!

Our checked luggage were 26" TravelPro's. Checking the specs on Amazon, it's 56" total. We also used 20" rollers for carry ons (probably over 15lbs). We never had anyone check our bags' dimensions or weight in the internal flights. This was also in 2014. I'm going again in 2016, and unless I hear any new info, I'll take the same bags.

FWIW, I have had (rarely) my carry on weight checked before, but not in China.

You mentioned that you were able to have one of the hotels do laundry for you. That may be another option we will have to look for.

I've only ever once had an issue on an internal flight (on my Greece ABD) where they claimed my carry-on was too big. (It totally wasn't. It's an internationally sized carry-on, and easily fit in the overhead compartment). Our Greek Adventure Guide had a heated debate with the gate agent, none of which we could understand, but the upshot was, I got to take my carry-on onto the plane.

I'll be interested to hear what you find out about this for China, as I'm taking this trip next June.

Thank you Cousin Orville! I'll look at Amazon. Are you going on the December 2016 China trip? If so, we will be traveling together! I've been reading your trip report from 2014. You mentioned that you were able to have one of the hotels do laundry for you. That may be another option we will have to look for.

We're going next October on the DIS Exclusive trip focusing more on the parks this time. China's a great ABD. One of the best.

I did not do ABD in China, but a different tour through Marathon tours. I think I had similar limits, but traveled with a 29" checked luggage, and a 20" carry on. Had no issues and I had 3 internal flights (Beijing to Xian, Xian to Chonching, and Yichang to Shanghai) on 2 different airlines (china eastern and china southern)

We went on the China ABD this October with 29 inch checked luggage and 20 inch carry on. When the trip started our checked luggage weighed a little less than 44 pounds but as the souvenirs accumulated the weight increased to 49 pounds for the final internal flight. You will never need to handle your own luggage for any of the internal flights. We were never informed that our luggage was over the allowed weight and we never received a bill. The carry on luggage was never weighed. Good luck and have fun! It is a great trip and the hotels are all wonderful.

Has anyone had any luck doing laundry at the hotels? A friend who did this trip keeps talking about washing her own clothes in their room because you sweat so much. I'm just not into the whole washing my clothes in the sink and line drying them thing. I sent clothes to the laundry on the Danube River cruise (we has some particularly hot/humid days on that trip) and I *LOVED* it! I'd like to plan to do that in China if it works, rather than carrying a couple dozen changes of shirts.
