Luggage for the kids

What kind of luggage do you use for the kids. We are going in April 2010 and wondering if I need to start watching luggage sales. It will be DH, myself and DS10 and DS8. I do have luggage for DH and I. Went to WDW 4 year ago and used little travel luggage on wheels for the boys that measured 18" x 12" x 7". I don't think it will be big enough for all there stuff for 8 days. Any suggestions?

I have the eBags Mother Lode mini for my turns-6-tomorrow-year-old. :thumbsup2 It's small enough to use as a carry-on, but has different sections and is configurable; so, I pull out the dividers and make it work like a wheeled duffle and it easily holds enough kids stuff for a week. With the dividers in, I can pack neater, but it holds less. I originally bought it because it was so lightweight. I have shoulder problems and my son is still little, but we travel alone together frequently so I needed something light enough for him to pull himself and me to be able to hoist overhead, mostly one-handed. It was the lightest roller I could find. It really works very well. No complaints at all. We also have a Tumi rolling carry-on that costs something like 8x more than that eBags roller - and I much prefer the eBags.

Honestly, it never occurred to me to get special luggage for kids. We just used 3 regular sized suitcases.

For our past few trips, my kids have used their kid-sized luggage. My son has his cute little Spiderman suitcase and my daughter has her pretty Ballerina suitcase.

Well, I've decided that since we now have to pay to check our bags this year, they will both be upgraded to larger suitcases - I'm going to get my money's worth! :rotfl: We're also staying for 10 days, so we really do need the extra space to bring home souvenirs!

Gotta Get To Disney! :moped:

At there age I would get them each a decent size duffle bag that they can grow with. That is what most older boys use and a good one will last a long time. Stick with a simple color or design that they will not outgrow.

We all including my 7 year old use carry ons. With baggage fees now a days we figure if it can't fit in a carry on you don't need it.

When we went in 2006 I bought the kids luggage from Pottery Barn and had their name sewn on it.

The bags really do hold alot and the kids love them. Everytime we go somewhere, even for a night they have to take them.

We have 3 good sized suitcases that we use for our family of 5. I divide up our clothes so that in each suitcase there is at least one outfit, bathing suit, pj's, socks, and undies for each of us. That way, if one of our bags gets lost, we all have something to wear.

It is just me, DD6 and DD4, we go for a week and so far, we have all managed to fit everything in one large (not over sized or over weight) suitcase. Next trip we will probably have to branch out to two suitcases just because their clothes and shoes are getting bigger, but will just use the next size smaller suitcase in my LL Bean luggage set. With that baggage charge I am all for getting stuff into as few bags as possible, since I am not carryon material traveling with two small kids and I have to check a bag full of two car seats too!

I used to combine our family's clothing and I decided that I am separating everything out this year. Too much rifling through the bags. I bought each of my kids 22" rolling duffle bags from Overstock.com. They were about $28 each with $2.95 total for the shipping. I haven't received them in the mail yet, but they look like pretty decent bags.

My friend flies several times a year, and about 10% of his luggage gets misdirected. One of his bags was lost last December and they never found it.

My kids each have their own little Disney suitcase that we use for overnights at Grandmas house. For traveling though, we use 1 full sized suitcase and put all of the kids clothes in it - and we had 4 kids last time we traveled. I suppose next time we will end up using 2 suitcases for kids stuff? LOL.

With the new baggage fees, the last time we travelled, we just used the regular wheeled carryon luggage, and even my 6 year olds were able to manage a bag.

My kids use whatever luggage we have that isn't ripped in my house.

Right now we have 2 suitcases. One smaller & one medium size (the medium size one is lighter then the smaller one).

I put clothes for all 5 of us in each of those 2 suitcases. The last trip we went for 8 days. I think I only brought 4 or 5 outfits for each of us & did laundry daily.

My kids did get a carry on with their own stuff which were their LL Bean back packs for my older 2 & a Disney tiny one for my youngest.

Wow I guess I am in the minority on this one.... of coarse we fly southwest and get 2 free bags each, but I have been packing my DD this week and she will have 1-28 inch pullman and 1-24 inch pullman for her things. Even with the clothes in bags and and the air rolled out...between the 25 customs, 3 petti skirts, shoes, pajamas, ect. she almost needs 2 full size suitcases. There will be a little room in one of them on the way down, but she is turning 4 while we are there are will be coming back with way more stuff then she goes with I am sure.

I was thinking of each of us having a wheeled carry on and then 1-2 bigger bags. Can you have a bag with the wheeled carry on? I was thinking of a backpack so I could put the essentials for the plane ride in there. Thanks

We are flying on a airline that charges and also has lost our luggage for a few days (silly to fly them again but they do have cheap tickets) so we will condense as much as possible. 2 adults 2 kids hopefully 2 bags 3 would not be bad but it is 15 for 1st bag (per passanger) 25 for 2nd bag each way! So as much as possible without being overweight in each bag :)

I'm hoping to fit both boys into their "Going to Grandmas" suitcase. If not then I will put the youngest in there since his clothes are smaller, and the oldest will get a rolling gym bag. DH and I will probably each take a suitcase and pack a duffel in one for souvenirs. I'm really hoping though to fit the boys into one suitcase.

We flew in Feb. and had 13 bags checked (that included two playpens and two strollers and one suitcase dedicated specifically to diapers, pull ups and wipes). Times two ways= 26 bags. Nothing was late or lost or misdirected.

Of course now that I said that, I'm sure our trip next month will include a luggage disaster. :rotfl:

Anyway, point of my post is... we separated everything. It takes soooo much time to dig through everything every time you need something.
