Luggage delivery when you drive to the port

We flew last time we cruised but this time we will be driving to the port. Do they check out luggage when we get there and deliver it to the room, or do we have to drag it to the room ourselves?

Although my family flew in on our last trip (used TTC), my aunt and uncle drove. They just got on a shuttle to the terminal from the parking lot and their bags were delivered there. They didn't have to drag their bags around.

You drive your car up to the entrance and the porters take your luggage and then you park your car. They then take care of it and deliver it to your stateroom. In our experience when you drop off your own luggage it gets to your room faster.

Castaway Fan - Did you cruise recently? I read on another post that you could not drive up any longer to the entrance and drop your bags with a porter, then park- or go to Avis & take the shuttle back.

I believe the post said the main entance was closed to drop off traffic since 9/11 security went into effect. You had to go to the parking lot across the street and they would take you and your bags to the terminal via a van, or something...

Do you know which one is correct? The way you describe is much more convenient. We are renting from Avis in April & driving to the Port from WDW. We wanted to drop our luggage with a porter, drop the rental car off & take the Avis shuttle back to the ship.

?? Thanks, Linda :)

We cruised 11/18/01. I'm almost positive that my aunt and uncle had to park and catch the shuttle (van) with their luggage. I know that we did and we used Tiffany.

I have the same question.....plus, I was told that the Avis location at Port Canaveral is in the Radisson Hotel...is that correct? And is there a shuttle there to the port? How long does that take?

The Avis check in is at the Radission. They are about 1 1/2 miles (if that) from the port. It is a very easy process. We ahve done that the last 3 times we cruised and are planning on doing it again in May.

We went on the 4 day Wonder cruise January 20th. You can now drive right up to the terminal and drop off your luggage (with the Disney luggage tags you received with your documents attached). You will need id and cruise documents to enter the terminal drive. You then go ahead and park across the street, walk into the terminal with your carry-ons, and check in! The luggage will be delivered and placed outside of your room sometime between 1 and 5 pm (or so).

That is WONDERFUL news! I am so glad that this is back. This was so easy and really started the trip off right. Thank you for this undate.

Lori1035- It sound's like that post I read was correct, based on your recent experience. You would go to the parking lot across the street & take a shuttle van, with your luggage to the terminal. Tiffany dropped you off in the parking lot, not the entance to the Port- correct?

Here's another question... Would it be better to drop off our luggage, me & DD in the parking lot to grab the shuttle to the terminal. Then have my DH go to AVIS & drop car off & take shuttle back to meet us in the terminal? OR would it be better for us to go directly to AVIS together ( at the Radisson ), drop the car & take the shuttle with our luggage back to the Port. I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has used AVIS recently? I guess I am concerned whether there is room in the AVIS shuttle for the luggage... Can DD & I check in first, then check in my DH when he returns- or do you have to be together at check in?

The last time we cruised was 10/00 & we took the Disney bus. Cars could drive up to the entrance to drop off bags then too, so a great deal has changed!

Thanks for your help!

Thanks MollyX! That is great news! Now we can drop the luggage, go to AVIS & take the shuttle back. I really didn't want to drag luggage around if we didn't have to.... You made my day!

When we cruised on Dec 6-9 2001 on the Wonder, we were able to drive up to the terminal. We passed two security check points before pulling up to the curb and were able to drop our bags off with the porter. My kids and I waited at the terminal ( outside), while my husband parked the car in the parking lot. We all went upstairs together. We checked in and were on the ship immediately. I was very surprised at how easy and quickly we were able to get on the ship. We arrived at the port about 1:30 pm and were on the ship by 2:15pm. We had plenity of time to eat and swim before the sail away party. Our luggage was in our room very quickly. I don't know exactly what time it arrived, but it was there when we went back to our room at about 4:30pm.

Looks like you got your answer!!! But, we cruised last week and in October and both times drove right up and dropped off our luggage. It was easy and very quick and as I said, our luggage was in our stateroom by 1:30 both times. The one time we took the Disney bus, we got our luggage at 9PM that night.

Just to clarify...

If you drive your own car (and your rental car is considered your own car), you drive right up to the terminal to drop off your bags.

But if take third-party transportation (a shuttle van, a towncar service, etc.) they will drop you and your luggage off at a point somewhere in the parking lot. But don't worry, it's a short walk from that drop-off point to the terminal, and you won't have to haul your luggage... they'll take over once you've dropped your luggage at that dropoff point.
