luggage at terminal

Since our return flight doesn't leave MCO until 6:30 pm, I was thinking about spending some time around the Port Canaveral/Cocoa Beach area after we disembark.

How late can we leave our luggage in the ship terminal? Would it be a problem to pick it up around 2:30 or 3:00 PM do you think?

Has anyone done this?

Kris

They want you off the ship by I think 9:30, so probably wont have anyone to clear you that late.

Why couldn't you take your luggage with you??

Well, there are six of us and we had so much luggage on our last cruise, that just getting around the airport was tiring.

Much easier to check out the beach, etc., without luggage on wheels!!

Certain airlines will check your baggage at the port. I can not remember which airlines does this. I am sure someone here will know though.

Only if you use DCL transfers will they allow you to use this service.

Oh...since we drive down I did nor pay much attention. Thanks for telling us!

Have you considered checking on day room availability in the area? You're off the ship so early and pretty much have 6 hours to kill. I know there are a number of hotels right on the beach. It would cover the hours that you need 10-2, give you a secure place to store your luggage and after a few hours of walking or swimming at the beach, you'd be able to grab a quick shower before heading back to the airport.

As for leaving your luggage at the Port until the afternoon, I think you would want to call DCL and find out their policy. With security concerns, unless you're on the passenger list for the outgoing cruise, they won't allow you near the terminal. I'm sure all left over luggage is pulled and stored somewhere else so that they can use the area for the new cruisers. Just don't know how easy or difficult it would be for a DCL employee to identify and locate your particular bags.

I was in the same situation, where our flight left at 6:26 p.m. on the day we disembarked. So I rented a car from AVIS and since we were flying on American, I checked my bags at the Port and did not see them until I reached my home airport. It was very convenient and I never had to deal my bags. And I didn't use DCL transfers. I also got our boarding passes at the terminal, so all we had to do was turn in the car at MCO and make our way to the gate.

I know that Delta has a check in desk there at the terminal also.

I was under the impression that I would have to have DCL transfers also to check in at the terminal. But what I don't understand is why that is so, since the check in desks are run by the Airlines with full capabilities like the Airport.

Nonetheless, the AA employee never questioned it and it went very smoothly. We returned to Downtown Disney.

Some very good suggestions -

We cruised last September and ended up taking the shuttle as soon as we got off the ship over to MCO. We had booked a day room at the Orlando Hyatt and swam in the pool and napped till flight time. That worked out really well, but this time I'm kind of wanting to go to the Cocoa Beach pier and Ron Jon's. We visited these places many years ago and wanted to see them again.

I checked into the option of doing the baggage check in at the port, but Spirit Air is one of the few that doesn't have a check in there :-(

BUMMER!!

It looks like the idea of leaving our stuff at the port till 2 or 3 is not a good idea.

Maybe the best thing to do is to rent a full sized van for the day.

Thanks for all the ideas and input!

You probably couldn't leave the luggage in the claim area since you have to pass through Customs as you exit. Not sure how long they stick around, but I doubt it's that late.

Wow that's a great idea to be able to check your luggage with the airline at the terminal. My family and I have a flight leaving MCO at 4:25 pm and this would be ideal. Would anyone know if JetBlue has a desk at the terminal? I'm going to look in to it...

Thanks! :cool1:

I flew Jet Blue in May...I am pretty sure there was no desk for them at the terminal.
