I hope they let me post this here. It IS relevant to our cruise.

I want to get Dh some new luggage for the cruise and our other trips. I want to get him a rolling pilot type suitcase and a matching smaller case.

Target has some nice looking sets for very good prices. They are called Embark, I think. Has anyone tried these? Do they hold up well or should I get the much more expensive Samsonite?

Thanks.

I bought the full set of these at Target....for CHEAP.
I have only take a few trips and they seem to hold up pretty well...no problems so far.
I think I paid just under 100.00 for the VERY large piece, the next smaller one, a carry on and a soft sided (almost as big as the largest one) roller as well as another smaller accessory/makeup sorta bag. GREAT deal during a sale. Dont' regret it.
2 people traveling for 10 days both times we only used the very large one and a the large roller with a carry on for all our stuff. That is saying a lot for me cuz I always overpack...especially shoes...a pair a day.
Hope this helps!

I bought ours at wal-mart.

Very inexpensive version of American tourister.

For the infrequent traveller, this stuff is great!

DOn't go too crazy on luggage. Spend the extra money on souveniers and drinks....

Thanks, that is helpful. I don't think I will get the VERY large one you are talking about, but they have some sets with fairly large rolling cases with smaller matching cases inside. I think I'll do that one.

I agree with you. I would hesitate to buy HUGE suitcases as as many airlines are now severely clamping down on luggage weights and sizes. We have one monster suitcase and we have to deliberately leave it half full or it will be too heavy.

Food for thought!

I think you will be very happy with your choice. I purchased an expensive suitcase a few years back. Weighs a ton and the cat used it as a scratching post. I could probably get my whole closet in there but then I wouldn't be able to lift it! Now I feel like I need to keep using it because I put so much money in it. But still, it is pretty. Oh well, live and learn.

The best piece of advice I can give on luggage is to get a rolling garment bag! You have no idea how much easier it is. I take all of my stuff to the cleaners before the cruise, leave it in the plastic bags and put it right in the rolling garment bag. When we got on board, nothing was wrinkled. I worked out great.l

And whatever you do DON'T buy black. Everyone buys black. We bought a set of red and it is fantastic to recognize at the airport.

That's exactly what I'm looking for, where did you find a rolling garment bag. Will it hold our gowns for formal nite?

I bought a small piece at target last year & brought it to vegas- the zipper popped & I actually had to buy duct tape to hold it together for the way home-- I would have bought another bag if it wasn't so expensive there! I have an expandable suitcase that I found on sale in a department store & its GREAT! I leave it smaller for the way there & when I have souvanirs to bring home I unzip the expandable part! I think that money spent on luggage is well spent- especially if you are going to check it! You want to know that it won't fall apart. The best about the stuff that's not too expensive is that you don't worry about ruining it! MY bf borrowed a piece of his mothers designer luggage the first time we went away & the leather was all ripped when we got it off the conveyer belt- & it was one of a HUGE matching set- AAHH! it's not worth having to worry about it- I bought him an expensive piece last year & he just uses it as carry-on- Check Sears- I was able to get my best friend & her husband a 10 piece luggage set for their honeymoon last year as a bridal shower gift- it was under $200!! Keep your eyes Open!:D

I got a set at Target that has gone on the cruise, to Disneyland, across the country and lots of other places too. It still looks new. I've had no trouble with the zippers or wheels.
