Staying at MCO Hyatt. If I take my luggage on bus to port, do I have to lug luggage onto ship, or do they check luggage off the bus. Makes me nervous having bags picked up in room and transported without me.

If you bring them to the bus yourself, you will get them back at your cabin.

That being said, if you want to feel better, you can wait for the bell man to pick them up before going down to the bus. We usually go to breakfast, back to the room and downstairs to catch the first bus and we either see the luggage being picked up or it is gone when we come back from breakfast.

I’ve never read any story of luggage being forgotten in a room or sent elsewhere. They handle DCL luggage 4-5 times a week. As long as you mention you’re taking the DCL bus at check-in, and that you hand in the paper slip at the DCL counter (they use it as a double check), you’ll be good to go.

Forgot to mentîon that your luggage is not place under the bus but in a separate truck that leaves later. The driver only handles strollers and carryons.

Wow. I had never thought about this, but yeah that would be a huge bummer if they missed your luggage. Thanks for posting this!

I’ve been on the dis for...awhile. And I’ve never ever heard of the Hyatt missing someone’s luggage. You can wait until thethe fw oicked it up if you like. You could buy a tracker to stick on the bags and track it by gps.

Honestly it’s the part where the baggage handlers at the port have it and get it onto the ship that worries me most. And still I’ve only heard of two instances where bags have gone in the water during that process. And I’m not sure that was on Disney.

I carry my essentials in carryon (swimsuits and coverup, dressup clothes, jewelry and makeup, flip flops and one pair of dress shoes, and sunscreen and sunglasses and kindle/camera/phone/chargers), and any big luggage that might take an extra journey won’t be missed TOO much. :)

Disney has been handling luggage for YEARS AND YEARS....we had them handle our luggage on the Maiden Voyage of the Magic 20 years ago from the Hyatt and several times since. They know what they are doing. It's a perk to have them handle your luggage to make your life easier not to stress you out. Of course, if you are still worried, you can schelp it yourself to the bus and it will be transferred via separate truck to the port.

For anyone wondering, we’ve stayed at the Pan Pacific in Vancouver and had our bags picked up from our room and delivered to our stateroom without a problem. (Not hard to do since the port is literally in the bottom floor of the and building but still- it’s a little unnerving to let your luggage go like that!)

I am wondering if anyone has first-hand experience with staying at the IAH Marriott for a cruise out of Galveston? I’d be willing to pay more for DCL transfer (because we’ve got a baby this time around) if I knew for sure they’d also get my bags from my hotel room to my stateroom. If we have to deal with that ourselves, it makes the pricier option less enticing. Thanks!

A tracker! Cool idea, I never thought of that. Recently saw a sale for the “Tile” keychain thing but I think it ended... will have to watch for that again!

If you bring your baggage down to the bus, checked baggage will go onto a truck parked near the buses and you will see it again in your stateroom later in the day.

Carryon baggage you either take onto the bus (if it is small enough) or it goes under the bus. This baggage you have to haul around with you until about 1:30 pm when they allow guests into their staterooms.

We have stayed at the Hyatt inside the airport a couple times and both times had our checked bags picked up from our room and taken to the ship while we took the bus. We went for an early breakfast at the Hyatt's Hemisphere restaurant and then waited in our room and were there when they came to pick up the bags. If you do decide to go this route, theere are a few things to know:

- you now need to arrange it IN ADVANCE with DCL -- if you have not already done so, you need to contact DCL and make sure they know you are spending the night before the cruise at the Hyatt in MCO and that you will need your checked bags picked up and transfered; you need to make this arrangement even though you have already arranged for the DCL transfer to the port, and according to the threads about it it needs to be done at least a few days in advance of the cruise;

- when you check in at the Hyatt, tell the front desk you are going on a Disney cruise in the morning and taking the DCL transfer; they will give you a letter explaining what to do/where to go/what happens with your bags.

- the letter the front desk gives you has space on thee bottom for you to note how many checked bags will be picked up in thee morning; fill it out. This is what you will give to DCL when you check in for the bus in the morning so they know how many bags to expect.
