Lucky Charms Tour 2005 - part 4
Starring….

Angel (aka Mandy)…. Mum extraordinaire, teenager at heart, loves to shop
Becky (17)…………………daughter, rock star, budding artist, also loves shopping

Background: trip was booked last minute (just the week before we left) by my lovely DH as a special treat for us girls to help us relax after a tough year, while he works, poor thing. We’re travelling with MyTravel to Pop Century for a week in the sun….

4. “Walk on the Wild Side”

We have Boma booked for today at 9.30 am so I’m up at 7 to have a quick swim before brekkies. Its quite cloudy today so Im expecting more rain, although its still lovely and warm….and Id still rather be here than in the Uk! Wake up Becky who gets up well for a change and manages to be ready before 9. We decide to call a cab as it would take time to get one bus to AK then another to AKL.

Soon at Animal Kingdom Lodge, marvelling at their beautiful lobby. Its pretty busy but not too bad. Have to wait a little while which is frustrating as others walk straight up without a ps and are seated before us…go figure! I love this breakfast. The ham is so sweet and melts in your mouth, and there is a massive variety of food on offer……...unfortunately not much for Becky to eat, apart from the usual fruit, but we have thought to bring some soya milk with us for cereal (bought the milk at PC shop), and she has half a bagel so doesn’t do too bad. The pot of tea she orders costs $6 though so all in all its an expensive meal. I don’t do it justice really either, with fruit, and some ham and pancakes. Still it’ll certainly keep us going for a while!

Have a look in the shop and spy the most beautiful Tinkerbell bag; its large and black with a sequinned picture of Tink (with bright green sequins for her dress) which I just have to have. Armed with my new bag we manage to get lost trying to find the buses and end up down the hotel corridors somewhere! Back into the lobby we ask outside and are directed round the front to the bus q’s. this was the longest we waited for a bus. We were going direct to the Animal Kingdom and had to wait 20 minutes, watching numerous buses to all the other parks….weird eh?

Anyway, in Ak its straight over to the safari to get a fast pass before we have a saunter around the park, noting the bits we want to do. I normally give this place a miss as Im not a big fan, but Becky loves it and hasn’t done it for years as the last couple of trips she’s been ill on the days we’ve visited. Take a note of the times for the Lion King show, which I do love, then its back to do the Safari (oh, we do manage to pop into a couple of shops too) which we are lucky to walk straight onto as they are looking for 2 people to fill up a jeep. We found this a lot on holiday, that with lots of families in the parks we were able to jump Q’s to fill up rides 

Not many animals out playing today, but we do get an excellent view of al the elephants at the water hole, particularly the baby playing with the water, which is great. The lion is in his usual position, asleep at the top of the rock….anyone else wonder if he’s a fake?? Giraffe and zebras complete the safari and then we’re out and wandering over to the Dinosaur land. Ominous clouds are appearing by now and its definitely going to rain so we quickly pick up a FP for Dinosaur!, then head to Primevil Whirl, which is new to Becky. The Q here is not too bad, and we just manage to make the ride before the rains start. Its fun, very fast and jolty, whirling you around and we end up with lots of bruises.

As we get off the rain starts….and boy does it rain!!!! We’re stranded under the roof of the women’s loos (great) and Becky eventually says “Its no good Mum, we’ll have to have poncho’s!”…….the shock of it!!!! I warn her that they’ll have Mr Mouse on but she gives in to fate (and the fact that nobody will know her anyway) and I run over to the shop, getting very wet, and buy 2 silly ponchos. Luckily they’re clear plastic not some garish colour too, and we’re all set, getting very hot in our lovely plastic containers (I feel like I’m in a Tupperware box) We decide to stop for a drink in the McD’s place as we still have some time left before we do Dinosaur, and the rain does start to lessen by the time we’re out.

Dinosaur is great as usual. I get to sit on the left so get the full force of the lovely surprise! Becky loves it and dithers for ages about buying a Dinosaur t shirt afterwards…..funny the things that are considered ‘cool’ eh?? In the end she decided not to….and then of course regrets it….guess where I’ll be going in October then?!

Its now time to line up for the Lion King show, and although Becky doesn’t really want to see this, she does it for me, and is glad. It’s a marvellous how if you haven’t seen it, well choreographed, danced and sung. I love the ‘birds’ most of all, and the fire dancer.

By the time we finish here it’s nearly 4 pm and we’re getting a bit peckish, which is great as Becky has asked to go to the Rainforest café while we’re here. It’s been recommended to us as its good for Vegans, so fingers crossed. Good choice! Becky declares the salad better than HOB even, which is saying something. It comes from foccacia bread and she has a fruit juice drink. I have macaddemia encrusted snapper, with rice and some lovely veg…its scrumptious! My fruit drink is great too. The service is fab too, only the air con lets us down. We’ve got damp and cold, and the ac is so fierce Becky is freezing! Only other bugbear is the badly behaved American child sitting next to Becky who bounces up and down the whole time Bek is trying to eat. I know, she’s only a child, but she’s about 11 or so and should know better…or her parents should! I think Becky’s scary face soon gives her the message anyway……

A good look around the rainforest shop, where we’re able to pick up some great shower gel at last, and we’re out of AK by 5.45. Back home, and its still raining…..boo! Decide to have a rest in the room then head off to EPCOT and take advantage of the late opening for Disney guests… Sadly the wait for Soarin’ is 80 minutes (gasp) and there are no fast passes available so we give that a miss. We’ll be back for this later in the week.

Instead we find a place near Japan to watch the fireworks, then head into our favourite shop and spend ages checking out all Becky’s favourite Japanese things. She comes away with a couple of Cowboy Be Bop books, and resists the urge to buy the limited edition figure which is $90!!!! Mad! We also buy some Japanese sweets and rice crackers while we’re there, and a can of green tea which Becky loves.

There’s just time for a fiesta margarita for me at Mexico while we sit and relax…………..oh and I think I’ll order a little tray of nachos!!!! HUH!! We’re in America now silly….its enormous and I only eat a few, Becky eats a few nachos and refried beans and we have to throw away the rest…..what a waste! Still, the margarita is perfect, and Becky is very jealous, although I do let her have a sip.

We head back to the hotel near Midnight and I suddenly have a horrible feeling………..when I went swimming earlier I left my new Stitch towel out to dry by the pool, thinking we may go back later…….its now disappeared!  I’m gutted and just hope someone kind has picked it up when it rained. I report it to lost and found but no luck….serves me right I guess. Oh well, I hope whoever took it enjoys it!

Fall into bed and straight to sleep, not so sure about Becky who’s still trying to get used to the earplugs…or my snores!

Lovely report again. Many thanks. When did you go?

I've always wondered about that lion too - is always in the same place. Shame about your new towel - I take it you didn't get it back?

Fab report Mandy ~ Thanx for posting.

Would love to see some pix. I'm so jealous of all this shopping time you got, another good day though, had no idea RFC served anything so decadent as macadamia encrusted snapper, might reconsider my opinion of this place,

Claire xx

Claire, I was surprised too at the choice at RFC:)

Deb, believe me there are NO pix taken of those attractive plastic bags we wore!!!!

My DH was adamant he wouldn't buy a poncho (the boys had cagoules and I bought a fetching pink umbrella in Walmart) until he had to sit for 1 hr in the rain waiting for Fantasmic to start!

Shame about the towel - maybe someone thought you were "doing a German" and reserving a sunbed. Only consolation is it would have been soaked. :teeth:

Mandy,
I've been told by people who have taken the backstage tour of the safari that there's a fan on the far side of the lions' rock, almost assuring that one lion or another will be cooling off there on hot days.
I'm enjoying your reports. Susan

lol, thanks for that Susan!:)....at least its restored my faith in Disney!;)

A great day at AK, I love Festival of the Lion King too. Hubby loved Primeval Whirl, neither of us have done Dinosaur yet though. Sorry to hear about your Stitch towel :( The food you had at RFC sounds divine, I may have to drag Andy in there!
