Hello!

Is there anyone out there that has been on the Lucayan resort beach adventure, the shore excursion, when docked in Grand Bahamas, port Lucaya?

I would like to know if it is worth the dollars? Do you get to use the hotel pools?, are there pool slides? are there shade areas, umbrellas, etc? How close to the beach is the hotel?, and if it is close, what is the beach like? Is it shallow and good or kids?

Also, what is the bus trip like? I hear you leave around 9:00am, what time do you return?

Thanks! I want to get the most out of the beach/Bahama experience as possible. You know, extend the castaway cay days, even if it isn't as nice.......

I remember the answers to some of the questions....we really loved the Lucayan beach day....the pool was very large and they did have a water slide. The beach is just steps from the pool which is not far from the hotel and they have a food stand right by the pool. My daughter waded in the beach water but preferred the pools. There were plenty of beach chairs to use there.

I wonder if we could just go to the beach nearby from a taxi?? I too was wondering about this excursion.
Last Fall we did a snorkeling excrusion there and loved it!
HOw much does it cost to do this one?

thanks,
Laura

We were there a week ago. Our whole family loved it! The price includes transportation (15 to 20 minute ride) and lunch, so it's not a bad deal.

The pools are huge and totally uncrowded. The pool slide is really long and fun. If anyone wants their hair braided, do it there, we had it done for half the price charged on the ship and the girls looked beautiful.

We enjoyed the lunch, a drink is included in the price (Bahamian Beer if you like). They had nice bobbing waves on the beach and the water is really warm. Too stirred up to see anything snorkeling though.

Everyone gets a lounge chair and a nice large thick towel. Their were plenty of umbrellas, too.

They also played games, including a large blow up trampoline-like thing that they sprayed with water and people could run and slide on.

It was definitely an excursion that I would do again.:D

I was thinking of taking this excursion. DH will be golfing that day.

I'd love to go to the beach and hotel and then go shopping before returning to the ship.

Do you know this is close enough to the shops, that you can shop and then take a taxi back. I have a map of Grand Bahamas and the shops do not seem that far away. Maybe a block or so.

There is so much to do and so little time, I want to fit Everything in.Everything

There were shops right across from the hotel...in fact you cross over that way to grab the bus back to the cruise.

Thanks everyone:

I think that Redmic is right about value here from what I've read,
seems that a meal, pool fun, and ride are worth the $. This seemed like one of the less expensive options. I know we will want some off boat time, as this is our first (hopefully) trip.

I have heard somewhere that the taxi cost here is quite high, and I figure if you got a hotel room like at Paradise, like some people do, the cost would probably break even, so I figure venturing out myself would be more risky than just going along with the Disney gang.

Besides, might be fun to meet some new friends! Hey, Bigsky, sounds good to me. Hopefully we'll be seeing you too.

Still curious about what time the bus arrives back at the boat?

I believe there were 2 or 3 different ones your could board so you could come back when you wanted to...

Thank you all for the information.

It sound perfect.

Celebrate Life,

Do you get to go? REmember we're way within those 60 days so you'll have a penalty. I hope you told dh that. ;)

I talked to my dh and I think we're just going to go to the beach for some time. WE're booking a room to spend the day at Atlantis. We'll be spending enough at WDW as well.

We miss the beach, so want to spend more time there. I just wish I knew of which are the nicer ones instead of relying on the taxi driver.

I wish I could remember how much we spend for a taxi ride to the shopping/beach area last Fall. I remember it wasn't much. I think it was 10.00.

Keep us 11~30 Wonder's informed if you get to go or not..

Another question - Newbie here -

The excursion say it's a 3-5 hours beach day and it departs at 9 am.

My question concerns timing - we don't want to miss the sailing at 5 pm.

If the beach day goes from 9 am for 5 hours, that's 2 pm. Do you have to take the bus back then, or is there another bus that can take you from the shopping area after that?

I basically want to shop a little longer, and then take the bus back, and not have to pay additional $$ for the transportation back to the ship.

Has anyone done this?

Thanks again.

On the excursions through the ship, they know to get you back on time! They do this all the time. The bus back is included in the excursions. If you want to stay back and shop longer than when they take you back, you're on your own! Then you have to pay to get back as well.

On that specific excursion, not sure if there's shopping close by that you can fit in while you're on your excursion. Someone else would have to answer that.

Last Fall, we did an excursion in the afternoon and went shopping on our own in the morning. Just depends on what it is and what time it is.

But if you stay with them, don't worry about not getting back. If you're on your own, you can miss the boat. :boat:

When I went in June, I seem to remember that one of the last buses back to the ship was around 3-3:30. We had a great day there. I'm so glad to finally see people posting good experiences there because I was used to seeing people say how they can go to CC for free so why pay for this in Freeport. I wanted to do something off the ship in Freeport as well as do CC so this was a great option. It seemed as if our ship (and a few people from the resort) were the only ones there. There was so much pool/lounge chair/beach/umbrella space. People always advise DISers to get a room in Nassau (either at Atlantis or CS) so they can experience the resort pools and activities, but rarely advise this Freeport excursion for the same reason. Hey, if you can fit it into your budget, why not do it all?:bounce:

Has anyone else done this excursion? Comments???
