Luau or Ohana (or Kona Cafe, maybe?)

Trying to make a decision here....

We have reservations for the luau in Dec. while we're staying at the Polynesian. But, frankly, the luau is very expensive! We're considering cutting back a bit by cancelling this and going to Ohana instead. We've eaten at Ohana twice before and always enjoyed it. The Kona Cafe is also an option...and we've also eaten there and enjoyed it! We've never tried the luau.

We have 2 kids, a 7yo ds and 2yo dd. I know my dd will be thrilled with the dancing, etc.... but I'm not sure about my ds. He's old enough to behave through it even if he's bored though.

Any input? What does the show involve? Is it worth it?

Thanks!

It's been a number of years since we did the Luau, but I do remember the show being quite spectacular. My son was 2 1/2 when we went and he was captivated by the fire dancers. The show is by far the best part of the luau, with the food (imo) being mediocre. Not bad, not great.

They also have guest interaction (yup, you might be dancing on stage) if that makes a difference to you. It was worth doing once, but once was also enough. If budget is the main concern, I'd skip it and go to Ohana.

We have been to 'Ohana's and the luau, and have enjoyed both. To me the food was better at 'ohana's but the show at the luau was great. Both my son and daughter enjoyed the show, and they were age 12 and 17, but the younger children there really seemed to get into the dancing and they all went on stage. When we went to ohana's it was late so nothing was going on then so I do not know anything about the games etc that they do there.
But if you are trying to keep your costs down, save the luau for your next visit.

Two things that you can do to spice up your visit to Ohanas. First, have your husband ask for the salt, and if they ask if the food isn't seasoned properly say no. When I did it a few years ago I got escorted up to the grill, the fire gods were awakened, and I had to wear a funny hat for the rest of the evening. Kids aught to get a kick out of that. The second thing you can do is time your dinner to coincide with fireworks at the Magic Kingdom, and ask for a seat on the MK side of the resturant. Another fun thing to do. Enjoy!
