I'm so bummed. My local scrapbook store is closing at the end of this month. She's been open for 6 years! And a couple of years ago, an Archivers moved in just down the street from her. It was so obvious what their intentions were, because there are no other scrapbook stores for miles around (besides Michaels, Joann's etc), and they moved in right down the street from her store. I'm so bummed!! Archivers doesn't have the customer service like the LSS. And the crops aren't that great. Where am I gonna crop??

Oh well, she's having her final all day crop at the end of the month. I'll be there scrapping in my PJ's (its a PJ crop) - for the last time!

Sorry, just venting....

I am so sorry to hear that. I hate to see the little local stores lose business when bigger chains move in, it's hard to compete. We have had 3 LSS close here in the past 1.5 years and I have an odd feeling that a 4th is on its way out.

We have had the same thing here. At least 4 that I can think of have closed. We have michaels and hobby lobby, but they have always been there. Archivers came in, but about a 15-20 minute drive away. But, in the city that is nothing to drive.

Same here, the Crop stop started to good a couple years ago in Suawnee then they moved to a small suite near mall of Georgia, they had lost of cool stuff, then they moved to a bigger place in the mall village and they had classes and really nice stuff, then Archivers came in to the very same area, and the crop stop closed last fall :( the lady told me that they weren't making any money. Then another nice store in Lawrenceville opened last year, and by the fall they were gone also.
I hope Archivers stay bcs I love it there.

i feel your pain.......my LSS closed a couple months ago due to family situations and i live 25 mins away from any kind of shopping let alone scrapbook stores!

I am lucky to have had 2 LSS until about 2 months ago. The smaller and less "trendy" of the two closed at that time. They couldn't keep up with ordering the new stuff as it came out. I was sorry to see them go, but got some really great deals during their going out of business sales. They did a week at 20%, 30%, etc. up till 70%. I was there when they opened (took a really early lunch that day) and bought lots of stuff. I was really amazed that there was anything left. Maybe you'll be able to get some good deals if they put everything on sale. That would be the bright side in this.... :earsboy:

I used to love that store! Every time I went to the Mall of Georgia, I always went in there. They had such great stuff. I was so disappointed to hear that they were going out of business. At the time, I hadn't even visited Archivers yet because I felt that they went into that location to put the Crop Stop out of business, and that really bugged me! Now that they are gone, I'll admit that I do stop in Archivers, but I don't like it nearly as much as I liked the Crop Stop.

Are you talking about Kim at precious Memories???

I have been going to her since she opened and always thought she had a better selection of scrapping things then that "A" place!!!! (I did go there for stamping stuff though) We'll have to find a place for all us "regulars" to crop at.

DId you ever take classes there if so which ones??? I did the disney classes (two years worth), book club for a while, the bazzil classes for a while... just wondering.

YES!!!!! Precious Memories!!! Isn't that sad? Are you going to the PJ crop on the 28th? I took a couple of the holiday related classes. I was going to join the Disney club this year, too. :sad1:

I'm trying to work out some babysitting arrangements, but hopefully. And I loved her selection of things and the way it is laid out much better than that A place. hopefully I'll see you on the 28th!!!

Oh, nooooo! I loved that store. We stopped there when we went to CHA last year and I just loved it. They had alot of stuff we didn't have around here. We checked out that Archivers, too and I spent more at the Crop Stop. I wasn't impressed by Archivers, I guess having the expectation that angels would be singing "hallellujah" :rotfl: as a I walked in the door to the scrapping meca didn't help, but I wasn't that keen on it.

The two privately-owned scrapbooking stores in my area have closed over the past year. I knew one of the owners. She just couldn't compete any longer with on-line prices and Hobby Lobby/Target/Michaels/etc. Additionally, the hours were long; and she has school-aged children at home. She had a couple of employees in her shop, but she still had to work on most days and weekends.
