LPT: If you're going to purchase direct and pay full up front, you can pay with Credit Card and reap travel multiplier (at least on Chase)

So in my search, looking for great deals and stuff, I actually decided to just purchase direct with Disney rather than through resale.

Since I am planning to pay in full for my contract, my rep mentioned to me that purchasing the full contract with a credit card is possible so I can save even more by using a high-rewards card.

I have a Chase Sapphire Reserve (CSR) card. Timeshares are included as a subcategory under Travel Expenses. Chase Rewards FAQ

My Chase card gives 3x points per dollar spent on Travel so my $28000 Contract will net 84,000 Points.

The value of Chase Ultimate Rewards points is the kicker though. Normally most cards points have a value of 1 cent per point where as Chase Ultimate Rewards (at least the Reserve level) has a 1.5 cent value per point, depending on the category. While straight cash back is only worth 1%, a statement credit, under the "Pay Yourself Back" category, which is a statement credit on eligible purchases, your points are worth 1.5%. And of course, if I use it on certain travel expenses, it can be worth even more but those are harder to find.

So basically, I am saving about $1260 by using my CSR!

I don't know if one can use a credit card to fully pay for a resale contract but I am guessing that you can't.

And, for those with a Disney Visa, you get 6 months 0% plus the rewards. They will let you bill the card in installments up to 90 days too, which gives one even more time to pay it off.

Some will take a small amount via CC for deposit resale…but not entire amount.

Disney visa is the undisputed champ if paying with a credit card in my view given they let you pay in installments and you get 2% on Disney transactions

You get 2% on Disney purchases with the Premier Disney Visa, which has an annual fee.
For the regular Disney Visa, it's 1%.

Both give the 6 months of 0% interest on direct DVC purchases.

I was considering signing up for one of the chase freedom cards with 0% apr for the first 15 months for a direct buy. I believe they let you transfer your points to your other chase cards so I was thinking I’d transfer the points to my sapphire account. It’s hard to decide if the 0% apr for the freedom card or the points on the sapphire are a better deal/more enticing.

Do you have Sapphire Preferred or Reserve?

If you have the means to pay off the cost immediately, then definitely go Reserve, if you can.

3x Points on your purchase and your points are worth .015 cents/point, depending on which category you spend it on. Statement credits qualify for this so it's pretty big!

It essentially comes out to a 4.5% discount.

Current sign up bonus is only 50k points right now for Reserve and there's a $550 Annual fee (though that fee is offset by a lot of benefits like a 300 annual travel credit, 100 credit toward precheck or global entry, and a myriad of other things.

I just have preferred. I was going to switch to reserve but then they increased the annual fee.

Are you able to put enough on the CC for the down payment then have them finance the rest?

is DVD still flexible on spacing payments if you want to make an aggressive down payment but still partially finance, or do they only do CC transactions for a full cash purchase?

My understanding is you can still do both. But, I haven't bought direct recently...waiting for VGF to go back on sale!!!!

yeah, I'm in the same boat, and i have the cash stashed away to "get in" on VGF2, but if there is some sort of incentive that really springs at a certain point level, it might be worth a short term finance situation to pick up additional points if the math works out that an incentive beats the interest

That could be us as well. I did just read that the Chase Freedom card is currently offering 0% for 15 months...that could be worth it to up me to the next level so I don't have to take all that money out right away and pay monthly instead!!

I am on the fence between 80 and 100, but if they offer larger discount at 125, that is what I am going to try and do!!!

Interesting on the Chase Freedom card. I have that card already, but on the Chase site it says it's for the Chase Freedom Unlimited card, which I do not have. I should look into that offer and see if I qualify. Strong winds blew my fence down on Friday. :headache:

I keep trying to save up to buy Disneyland Tower points, but my hot water heater, heat pump/air conditioner, washer & dryer, and my kitchen floors have all needed replacing in the last 6 months, and now my fence is trashed. I can't even with this! :faint:

just under a week ago, I was on the add-on page and saw VGF. It was $255, not sure if that was the price before or not

It was removed within hours so most think it was in error, That was the sold out price.
