I remember when I purchased way back in 1994 you had to purchase at least 150 points. then offers were made for 100 points at a time.
Now I see point offers being made from Disney for 25 points.
I was thinking of purchasing some points for each of my sons but in their own names, not add ons. Eventually I would split my points with them but right now I use my points for myself and grandson's trips without the sons.
I would rather purchase from Disney so they can get the benefits from direct sale even though I know resale is much less expensive.
Could a person own DVC with only 25 points?

yes, you can buy a resale 25 point contract for each of your kids, but I am not sure if DVC will sell new contracts that low.

Problem is, the direct sale benefits are useless with 25 points. DCL and ABD require hundreds of points for even the cheapest trips. For the Disney Collection, if they banked their points, they could do one night at the Yacht Club every other year. And the point costs for those 'benefits' go up all the time.

There are some valid reasons for buying direct with a small contract, but this isn't one of them.

Except you qualify for the member cruise with just 25 points....then can pay cash.

You'll just have to call your guide.

The lowest I've ever heard of for a new member was 50 points but that was rare. 100 seems to be a more common number for DVC to sell to a new member. However you never know until you call - maybe they'd do something less in this case where you are a current member and purchasing. :confused3 It would be an exception though and not the rule.

Otherwise resale for 25 pointers to start your sons off new. I agree that 25 points won't make any difference with the benefits - it's just too small of an amount for anything. Except the member cruise however if you were going also that wouldn't be an issue.

You will not be able to buy 25 points direct in different names than listed on your contract, you'd have to go resale to do so or buy then in your name and change the names later. I'd caution about the limitations of 25 points as well both in terms of the pp cost and the usability. Likely better to just save the money earmarked for that purpose or to buy the points in your name and have options later. You could buy 100 pts and break it up into 25 or other then putting all names on the same contract. Personally I'd recommend against that option and any option that would have people end up with simply only around 25 points. The only exceptions would be very specific circumstances for well informed members such as those who were trying to get access to discounts or just a couple of days here and there.
