Hi everyone,
We're going to Disney on our first family vacation in September, but I'm already planning vacation #2. We can take off anytime in January and February. We want low crowds and I know weather can by iffy. Thanks for any advice. Linda

We were down in January and the day time temp was in the low to mid 70's and chilly at night. The crowds were not bad at all ,we were able to move around freely and the longest wait time for kids rides was only 5-10 minutes! :sunny: February is ok(early part) I think it gets busier when schools are on break around Pres. Day. :sunny:

We were there this past January and the crowds were practically non-existant during the week. It was mild temps during the day 60s-70s (although it did get to 84 and humid one day) and chilly at night (one night it was in the 40s).

I have also done a day trip in early February. It was a little warmer then (upper 70s to mid 80s the whole trip) but crowds were still non-existent (did the whole MK in 1 day). Weekdays are still best since the locals tend to come out on weekends.

Crowds are surely lighter in January than February, but both are lighter than the rest of the first-half of the year.

We went right after New Years (after the weekend). There were almost no people. We actually thought Epcot was closed, and we somehow got in by accident :)

I like the weather that time of year, but I really hate heat and humidity, and from NH......

We went the last week in Jan. and it is a great time of the year to go. At 10.30 in the morning, my son and I walked directly on to Space Mtn. We honestly had a 2 minute wait. Disney didn't even have the FP booths operational. They all had covers over them. The only gamble is the weather. The first 2 days it was jeans and a sweatshirt. After that, you could start out with shorts and sweatshirt and pull the sweatshirt off later in the day.

I was wondering the same thing. Were trying to decide between Jan and Feb. We were there Feb. last year and the crowds definatly picked up on the weekend before Presidents day.

I have also heard that the crowds pick up during the marathon and travel becomes a nightmare. Does anyone know when the marathon is in Jan?

The marathon is the first weekend in January, but honestly it didn't cause us any problems. We just held off and got to the parks at 10 instead of 9 those mornings (giving transportation time to calm down) and we were fine!

We have gone to Disney in May, Sept. Jan. Feb. & Mar. The least crowed time was definately January. If low crowds are the priority, I would say late Jan. would be the best time to go, however, keep in mind it can get cold! We brought our winter coats & actually had to wear them at night. We also had to buy gloves one morning because our hands were so cold & yes, the gift shops were actually selling gloves! :)

Hmmm. I must have picked the wrong parks on the wrong days. I was there the last week of January 2006 also, but I had to wait for most rides longer than a few minutes. It was never bad, but rides such as Soarin' and Big Thunder Mountain usually peaked at about 70-80 minute waits in early afternoon. FastPast was always operational and was my best friend.

As for weather, I live in the South but I never get used to the high heat and humidity of summer. I love to go to Orlando in January and experience what I would consider springlike weather: highs from the 60's to 80's and usually sunny.

All that to say: I would recommend going in January. In fact, I plan to return January 20, 2007. Maybe we'll see you there! :wave2:

We will be at Epcot on NYE we MK on 1/1, MGM 1/2, MK again on 1/3 and close out AK on the 4th and head for home. I hope the crowds lighten up after NYE

I hate crowds so I'd love to go when it's quiet! Looks like I'll try and get their earlier in the year at some point!
