I was thinking about upgrading to a 200 AW to accomodate my 70-200mm f/2.8. But then again, I don't really want to take that big lens everywhere. So now I'm thinking I might get the LowePro Lens Case 2 and use the "SlipLock" system to attach it to my 100 AW. But then, I don't know if I trust that lens to a velcro attachment system. It's possible the lens case hanging off the bag may the whole thing awkward to carry.

Has anyone tried a LowePro lens case on a sling pack attached at the SlipLock loop?

It may be awkward but it isn't going anywhere! The LowePro lens cases have a double Velcro locking system, where the main loop is backed up by a secondary loop, very secure.

The cases work best on a horizontal strap, such as a belt or the side straps on a Crumpler $x Million bag. It looks like the "slip-lock" straps may work well.

Thanks!

I called around today and I got lucky. Wolf Camera had the LowePro lens Case 2 in stock. So on my lunch break I went to check it out. It's not big enough for my lens. Without the hood attached I could get the lens in the case but it was still too long to zip closed. I hung the case off my bag anyway just to see how I liked the SlipLock system. It works pretty good but the loop is too low and the lens case actually hangs lower than the bottom of the bag. I could hang it off one of the loops on the front of the bag but that would get in the way of me accessing those compartments.

They also had the 200 AW sling pack and it was not big enough to hold the lens either. It's also as big as I'm willing to go in a day bag for stuff like family outings. So that means I'm sticking with my 100 AW for now. If I'm going somewhere that I'll want the 70-200mm f/2.8 then it's coming in it's own Nikon case. I actually wore it like that Sunday. I had the 100 AW strapped across my chest and one direction and the shoulder strap from the Nikon lens case going across my chest in the other direction. Then there was camera strapped around my neck.

I felt like a photo commando!

I should have checked last night, I have the Lens Case 2 for my Canon 70-200 f/4 and it barely fits. The f/2.8 is likely to require the lens case 3 or even 4.
