After the MLK weekend the crowds were non-existent. They closed half the beach to the grade the sand and still lots of empty chairs. Lots of empty chairs around the pools, especially the adult pool. I think Omricon caused lots of cancelations. Also, almost no visitors from Asia. Not sure if the travel rules changed for them. No line on the water slides. Crazy, but super nice.

Adding to everything you said, there are some (not sure how many) DVC rooms out of inventory for refurb, and I don't think Disney is even selling every single room on the cash side because they don't have the housekeeping staff to turn over the rooms.

We are leaving soon. Boosted and ready to go. Sounds like a good time to visit.....

I think the DVC rooms out of service is big. I just learned they make up well over half the resort.

Thanks for the update as we arrive on Wednesday for a week. DW is dying to know if the shave ice stand is open tho? Priorities right

Yes, it is open, though randomly two days ago the pineapple dole whip window on the beach was closed over two hours early with no explanation. Only dole available at that time was mango at Ulu cafe. Pineapple was open full hours (until 5) today.

Just to add to this, we are also here at Aulani right now. While the crowds are definitely thin, I can tell you that DVC is actively throttling occupancy down. We originally booked 1/16-24 (about 11 months ago) and later wanted to add 1 extra night. We were waitlisted for months. The waitlist expired 7 days out, so as soon as we got here, we kept asking each day. We never got the night of 1/24. (So I just used Marriott points to stay in Honolulu for a night.) But if after months on a waitlist and a DVC member that is already here (who owns Aulani points) can't get a DVC room on a Monday night during a slow time, it looks like DVC is cranking things down.

I am guessing this is most likely due to renovating rooms and a hard schedule to take rooms offline. I did another trip report post that commented on Covid. While the mask and vax rules are real, after a week out here now I can say that pretty much everyone out here is ready to move on - individuals and businesses. As welcoming as the Hawaiian people usually are, the general feeling now is that they are happier than ever to have tourist back. We have had some great trips to Hawaii over the years but this one is probably our most enjoyable ever (we have been to Oahu and the Big Island this trip). Not because there are fewer tourists. It's just an overall vibe of "welcome back!" and "thank you for coming back!".

Glad to hear this! Heading out there beginning of February for the first time and am looking forward to the trip!

Thanks for the information, we are considering a trip there...good to know the time of year to go to avoid the crowds.

We arrived on Sat the 22nd and on Saturday and Sunday I thought things were fairly busy but not really crowded. Monday things were noticeably slower. We were able to find open pool chairs in the late morning / early afternoon each day during the week.

Rats. We have a waitlist for Feb 7-9 to add to our Feb 2-7 stay. Was hoping it would come through with cancellations, etc., but if they don’t even have all the rooms in inventory, it’s sounding less likely.
We have a reservation in Honolulu, but was hoping to extend our Aulani stay.

Ah, wondering why there are no dates at all for a cash stay. Wanted to check it out if we went to Oahu. I think we’ll book big island for spring break (had to cancel DCL)

So, we asked at the front desk, and a manager was able to override something to let us use points to add on 2 days! There is definitely ”space”, but no points rooms have been available for months.
