I got this recipe for crustless pizza from the lowcarbfriends site and we had it for dinner tonight. I wasn't sure how it would turn out but it was absolutely delicious! If you are a pizza lover and tired of taking the toppings off when you get a craving, you have got to try this. DH, DS and I ate the entire pan tonight! It was that good. I admit we didn't include the sausage or canadian bacon and I used jar pizza sauce (but low carb). Of course, you can use whatever pizza toppings you normally like. Enjoy!

CRUSTLESS PIZZA

Ingredients:
1. 1/2lb browned hamburger
1/2lb browned, scrambled sausage
2 green peppers
2 cans of mushrooms (stems and pieces)
Spices

1/4 of a small onion (sliced and cut up)
2 cups of shredded mozz cheese
Pepperoni
Canadian Bacon
Tomato Sauce

How to Prepare:
Brown hamburger and sausage and then drain. While this is happening you can cut up your veggies and prepare your other ingredients. ** To make the sauce, i just use 1/2 cup of tomato sauce and add garlic powder and onion powder** (Just to have that sauce look). Use a 9x13 and layer the ingredients in the order you want. We always put hamburger and sausage first... Add the ingredients you wish..
Back at 375 degrees until cheese is brown and bubbly.

I'll have to try that. I do miss pizza. :)

DH didn't like that one :(

But he loves just having the toppings layered in a pan.

The pepperoni or salami in the bottom forms kind of a crust ;)
this recipe came from this forum...somewhere ;)

Crustless Pizza

Serving Size : 10 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Casseroles

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
pepperoni and/or salami
pizza sauce (Ragu is low carb)
3 different cheeses
Toppings
green pepper
mushrooms
onions

In a casserole dish, layer pepperoni and salami on the bottom
Add pizza sauce. Use a brush to dab it on, you won't need much.
Then layer 3 different cheeses, more pepperoni and salami, more sauce, more cheese,
and any toppings you like - green peppers, mushrooms, onions, anything!
Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

This month's Men's Health Magazine had an article with recipes from some of the popular programs (SBD, Atkins, etc). One they had, which IIRC came from SBD, is Portabello Pizza. Take Portabello mushrooms, remove the stem and ribs, and bake in the over for a few minutes to dry them out (they didn't say what temp. to use). Top them with your favorite pizza toppings and broil in the oven until the cheese is bubbly. The musroom becomes a low-carb crust.

Great ideas! I printed them out. Thanks!

Thanks so much for the recipes! I do miss pizza and do get sick of just toppings, so this is awesome!! I am definitely going to try it this week!! :)

I have 2 pretty good crust recipes dependign on what type of crust you like.

Thin crust, a little crispy but not very.

2/3 cup soy protein powder (depending on the brand could be anywhere from 0 carbs on up)

2/3 cups canned parmesan cheese

2-3 oz heavy cream.

Mix dry ingredients and then add enough cream until it holds together. It will not stick together like a dough, it will be hold together but will crumble easily.

Pat out very thin on parchment paper (the directions insist on this but it did not stikc on my well seasoned pizza stone.

Bake for 20 min at 400F. Add toppings the bake another 15-20 min.

Thick soft crust

2 large eggs and 1 1/2 cups grated Italian cheese. Dash of salt

Mix well and spread into a baking dish (9x11 I believe). Bake @400F for 15 min then add toppings and bake for 15-20 min.

I have another suggestion also. We kind of came up with this, this afternoon, and it turned our pretty good.

1 low carb flour tortilla, spread on a little butter, and some garlic salt and if you like sprinkle with a little parmasean cheese.
Bake in the oven for a few minutes until it starts to get crispy, and then spread on a few tbls. (or less) of pizza sauce. We used Ragu HOMESYLE, for some reason Ragu TRADITIONAL was made with sugar, and this was not.

Then add what toppings you like. We used pepperoni and mozzerella cheese. Anything would work, except maybe hamburger or sausage because the crust is very light and crispy, I'm not sure it would handle heavy toppings.

Stick it back in the oven to melt the cheese a bit more and enjoy!

About 8 net carbs per individual pizza.

I did a modified version of your recipe, Lisa, no sausage or topping and smaller and BOY is it good!!

I'm a cheese only pizza person so I just did the layer of meat, sauce and cheese. It was like my long lost lasagna!

Thanks for the idea!

I'm spreading some on a low carb tortillia for Michael's dinner, Brier Rose. He loves those things!

We had the crustless pizza (again) for dinner tonight. My crew loves it. I think I overdid it a bit. It is deceptively filling.

Robin - I'm glad you liked it. I don't use sausage and lean ground beef together either. I find the ground beef, cheese, pepporoni and mushrooms are enough and I add onions and peppers too. I have to remember to have a smaller portion next time. :earseek:

There are some great recipes here on WISH as well as Low Carb Friends. There is one I think here for a pizza using ground beef for your crust. I do not go by the recipe exactly because it has a bit too much onion but the essence of it is to mix up your beef aong with an egg and the spices you like(salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion(minced or powder)) Mix it all up together and spread it out on a pan like a jelly roll pan. Bake it until done and then make it just like a regular pizza and put it back in the oven until the cheese browns. It is very filling anf VERY good.

Had to make another one today! My sister doesn't believe it so I had to make some for HER! :teeth:

My son wants it for breakfast, now...
