Low Carb Weight Loss Each Week?

Ok...I started my low carb diet with Curves two weeks ago. Last week I lost 7 lbs. and was so excited. This week I ate just about the same thing and only lost 1 lb. Alittle disappointed. I exercised at Curves three times each week and drank water. How could there be such a difference? Any advice?

The first week is mostly water weight.

Also, weight loss in general is not (for many people) a steady downward ride... your body needs time to adjust some weeks. There are lots of factors. Unless you are *severely* overweight, there's no way you were going to lose 7 pounds every week.

I'm a very very slow loser, I didn't even get the dramatic first-week loss... so be happy. :) I'd kill to have lost 8lbs in two weeks.

Thessaly is right. The first week of low-carb, you usually lose all that bloating / water weight. Then it slows down a bit. You should be feeling much better by now though. Have you noticed that your digestive system is working better, or that you have more energy now and less of that "after lunch afternoon slump"?

Also on low-carb, there will be weeks when the scale stays the same but you lose inches. I don't understand it but I've lived through it. My tape measure became my best encouragement when the scale wasn't moving. Take those measurements and I think you'll see changes in inches.

Good luck!

I was thinking that and I'm going to get measured at Curves tonight to ease my mind. I'm sticking to it. I have about 50 lbs to lose. I do feel alot better and I'm not as tired. Thanks for responding.

Hi, just wanted to add my 2 pennies worth. I lost loads on my first week - about 8lbs and then it started to slow down from there. I have lost 58lbs during the last 5 months, averaging out at about 2lbs a week. Don't get discouraged, a 1lb loss is better than a 1lb gain!!!;)

I usually lose between 1-3 pounds per week, although every 5 or 6 weeks I maintain for 2 weeks. It's bizarre, but now that I see the pattern I don't despair when the scale doesn't move.

You are going to lose at your own rate...try hard not to compare yourself to others. You are doing great!

I have about 50lbs to lose too, which just goes to show how happy you should be about your 8lb loss - I'm probably lucky if I've lost 8lbs in the first six weeks. I probably haven't. (I'm not weighing myself yet because I know from years and years of experience that I'm a slow loser, and my lack of success compared to people like you tends to kill any diet within the first few weeks... my clothes are fitting better, but they're going to have to fit a *lot* better before I step on that scale again. *smile*)

remember, you may have also gained muscle because of going to Curves. Muscle weighs more than fat and would show up as less of a loss. Muscle means that you lose inches and look better.

Thanks so much for all your input. I'm feeling alot better now. Maybe next week will be my week. :)

Hubby and I usually lose about 1-3 pounds a week also.

We also stall every 5 weeks or so for a couple of weeks.

Have you been measured yet? When you eat a controlled carbohydrate diet you really need to concentrate on your size rather than your weight. So be sure and measure yourself.

I lost 18 pounds the first 3 weeks on Atkins then nothing for the next six weeks. I lost lots of inches, though and seeing proof that I was getting smaller helped me stay motivated.

Hang in there. We all lose weight in different ways and different speeds. Don't let an artificial timeline get you frustrated. You will lose the weight it's not a question of if...just when.
