Well, in anticipation of a wedding that I'm going to this weekend (which entails a fabulous new dress and wanting to look impossibly fresh, toned, good hair, and perfect, since the last girl DH dated before me is in the wedding with him) my trainer and I decided that I can get "cut up" by doing less than 100 grams of carbs per day and upping cardio to 1 1/2 hours a day. I thought, "no problem" until I realized that the yogurt, granola bar and gatorade I had for breakfast had 65 carbs, and without carbs I can barely walk, much less run!

I'm cranky, mean, ill as a hornet, wanting a biscuit and a Mt. Dew so bad I'd kill for it!

How do those of you who low-carb do it? I don't really like many vegetables other than lettuce, corn, cauliflower, peas, and potatoes, and I know I can't have some of those.

I only have to do it until Saturday...someone HELP with some ideas!

The weakness only lasts the first 3 days, then you feel better than you did before, at least that is what happened to me.

I can't stick to low carb though, cuz I get sick of the food. I lost about half of my weight low carb, and the other half lower calorie.

Hmmm..if that is you in your signature..then I say EAT A BROWNIE!! Yoou look FAB!!!!!

I'd take the way you look in your sig anyday too! You look GREAT! But, I know that won't stop you. You're looking for encouragement. Try hard boiled eggs/no yolk, lo-fat cottage cheese, chicken... lots of chicken! :rotfl: Look for some protein shakes. Do they sell any good ones at your gym? I like Myoplex but they have a lot of carbs too. There's some w/no carbs though.

Celery w/lo fat peanut butter or cream cheese? Not too much though... but will help in a craving pinch!

Good luck! I'm sure you will look 10x more fabulous than what's-her-name!

If you are doing 90 minutes of cardio EVERY day, it sounds like you need some carbs, especially since you are only doing it for one week. Can you maybe stick with the healthy, natural carbs? Like whole grains and fruit.

That's what I'm screaming! But my trainer says that if I eat a ton of protein (at least 300 grams) and keep my carbs low, I still will have enough energy stored. And he's right, I do. A family of 10 could feed off my rear end if we crashed in the wilderness. Hahaha!

The protein is the problem. I have yet to find a shake or bar I like. I had baked chicken, a salad, some grapes and an orange tonight. Giving up my three mountain dews and two pepsi's per day is the hardest part!!!

I know I'm being petty...but she and I (long convoluted story coming) grew up in the same hometown and went to different schools. At age 14, my very first boyfriend and I broke up, he went out with her, I decided I wanted him back, so I took him... Five years later, she and I end up in college together, ran against each other for things, were in SGA together, were in opposing sororities, etc. Totally competitive. Dh (who is NOT from my hometown) and I hit a rough patch, and who does he end up going out with? This SAME girl!!! So I took him back too. And married him to boot! :) She's one of those little, tiny 5'2" 105 pound girls, and I've always felt like the jolly green giant next to her. So nyah, nyah, nyah. I'm going to be so cute she'll pull her mustache out. (I'm such a witch..she's very dark brunette, and I always call her that frizzy headed girl with the mustache. I am about 14 years old inside. :) )

I do low carb and I love it. The first 3 days of starting it, I felt tired, sluggish, had headaches and just felt lousy. But then all of a sudden the next morning I woke up feeling refreshed and from then on I have tons of energy. I do eat lots of protein/fat and I get so full and satisfied. There are days that I actually have to force my self to eat some meals. In between meals if(A big IF) I get alittle hungry I'll grab a handful of nuts or some cheese and I'm fine. It takes a few days to get used to, but, once your body gets rid of all the bad carbs, your loaded up with a full, energized feeling.

MScott1851 - I don't have any low carb suggestions for you, but you sure made me laugh this morning. You look great in your sig photo. You'll have a great time even if you are 14 inside!! :rotfl:

LOL! We'd be fast friends, I know it. :smooth:

Low carb staples for me were macadamia nuts, cheese cubes, pepperoni and low carb tortillas with turkey. Watch out for low carb candy, just really bad side effects and can cause a stall. Good luck!

As the father of a Registered Dietician (recently graduated from internship program) get yourself to a nuitrition, preferably one who is an RD not your trainer. Unless, of course, your trainer is an RD.

From the horse's mouth so to speak, low-carb diets can lead to ketosis where the excess protein in your body cannot be handled adequately by your kidneys.

Her emphasis is low-fat with exercise particularly stay away from hydrogenated/partially-hydrogenated vegetable oils. High in trans-fatty acids a big NO NO.

By the way she consults at 2 health clubs in our area besides working as a clinical nutritionist in a hospital.

You cannot do low-carb AND low-fat at the same time. On low-carb, fat is your friend. ::yes:: 300 g of protein in a day???? This sounds ridiculously high.

My best advice, and I've done low-carb for years, way before it was cool :p
I'd create meals that have no more than 15g carbs. The protein and fat will fill you up and you will not go hungry. You WILL feel awful for the first 3 days if you're giving up 3 Mt. Dews and 2 Pepsis per day - that's a ton of carbs AND a lot of caffeine to boot.

If you're really hungry, you can splurge on fruit but don't eat it by itself - always with some protein. One of my favorite snacks is an apple with peanut butter smeared on it. Low fat yogurt with slivered almonds or chopped walnuts is great too (the true carb count in yogurt is way less than the label says).

If you need any more ideas, feel free to PM me.

Hmmm, I'm not sure your trainer sounds very experienced with low carb dieting. It's not the kind of diet that works fast like that, it takes time.

I noticed that you said you had grapes & an orange with your chicken. Citrus fruits & grapes are loaded with natural sugars, definitely not low carb. Try having an apple & broccoli or green beans and a piece of wheat bread (or low carb bread).

Usually, when you start a low carb diet, you need at least 2 weeks of less than 50 carbs a day to de-tox your body from dependency on the carbs. Then you gradually add things back. Your goal is to force your body into a ketosis state, training it to use stored fat as fuel rather than the carbs you intake.

Good luck with your weekend. I'm sure you'll be gorgeous. I think you need to rely more on your cardio training and calorie counting to go for those few lbs. your trying to shed in such a short period of time. Low carb is more for long term dieters that are willing to make a complete lifestyle change. Any weight you lose with low carb will come back easily if you go right back to your old habits.

Oh sweetie, you are gorgeous! And she is probably thinking, I have always felt like a little mustached shrimp next to that tall blonde bombshell. She is probably gearing up for some major waxing and hair straightening as we speak!

Me and DH have been low carb since Jan. I have lost 10 lbs, Dh has lost probably 45.

We did not cut out caffiene. Do you not like diet soda? There are some good ones made with Splenda, and you can hardly tell they are diet.

Our favorite treats are the Blue Bunny Low Carb ice cream bars. If you feel that you need a treat, try these.

Berries are good low carb fruits, oranges are not.

They do make low carb yogurt as well. I have one every morning for breakfast. The taste is pretty much the same, although the consistency is just a tiny bit different.

The cravings do pass.

I did not lose much weight the first week though. I actually gained 2 pounds, so I am not sure this diet is really going to get you the fast results you are looking for.

I can feel for you, it takes a while not to feel yucky, your in sugar/carb withdrawal.

I've been on Low Carb for a long time, it's a way of life for me. I limit my carb intake to 25-30 grams a day. I keep off the extra 20 pounds that I gain if I eat carbs.
I think what saved me at the beginning is the Atkins Bars. The Mixed Berry flavor are really delicious or the regular Oat favor if you can't get the Berry.
I buy box fulls at BJ's for $24/box. They are nutritious too.
You can eat them at the induction phase, which is what your on. They may be just what your missing!

Good Luck, I hope you look perfect for the Wedding, have a great time!

PS...no potatoes, corn, or peas...the cauliflower is OK and don't forget spinich if you like it.

I tried it and hated it. I think Atkins will eventually be used as a defense in a murder trial.

I really like nuts so I ate nuts and black olives (neither of which are very filling).

Misty, allow me to be the nine hundredth person on this post to tell you that you are HOT and you don't need to worry about feeding the cannibals. ;) I've seen you firsthand and I can irrefutably confirm this. Dear, even our gay bartender checked you out. Andrew asked how I knew hot girls in Memphis when his friends can never seem to meet any. :) There is zero cause for concern.

As my friend Lynea says, we are 10.5s and no carbohydrate can beat that out of us (haaaa ... I love her). We can also take great comfort in the fact that (1) your husband married you, so you won, and (2) I would put at least a 50% probability on her wearing a wedding dress with sleeve poofage and a butt bow.

But in the meanwhile, I have never been brave enough to attempt low-carb, but if it is going to accentuate the BCBG dress (bebe? Gotta be one or the other), I hear that Macadamia Nuts are almost carb-like, and they're salty so that will be satisfying. Also, indulge and roast up a steak ... does garlic have carbs? Make a big, mean, bad buttery steak.

Have fun this weekend! D

The only thing I have to add is that cauliflower is a wonderfully nutritious low carb thing to eat :)

You can mash it up and put butter and garlic in it and it's like mashed potatoes. Well, almost :p

I am still laughing 10 minutes later. Not at you, but with you. I could feed a small nation myself.

Just do the best you can this week. You have confidence and that is very attractive.
