I just read this article on Discovery Health about a new variety of potatoes with significantly lower carbs than the usual potato. Thought it might be of interest to low carb-ers. It's going to be marketed in the northeast & Canada. Darn, we just moved out of the northeast!

I saw this in the Orlando Sentinal a week or so ago. But think about it, instead of 19 net carbs, it's now going to be 13 with this new potatoe. You might as well just eat half of a potatoe now and your still getting less carbs. I think I will stay clear of the new potatoe, 13 carbs is still alot for me. But it is interesting to see that people are taking this so seriously and trying to make things more low carb.

I agree with you, gshoemate. I'm staying away from potatoes. When you only have 25 a day, 13 on a potato is wasted, to me. Plus, I'm not sure that's the right carbs for low-carbers. However, when my birthday rolls around, a potato might be a better treat than a slice of cake as a special treat!

But, I also agree it's great that so many companies are taking the low-carb lifestyle seriously and not thinking it's just a craze! This does make it much easier. My only worry about this is Atkins & South Beach want people to eat more whole foods and less processed foods, and the companies that are making all the yummy stuff, may pull people off track.

There are days when I do miss junk food............

I'm probably going to avoid them, too. But isn't it interesting what they're trying to do? Also, it's important to note that the carb level tests were considered to be unscientific.

Yummy genetically engineered foods to go with the chemical filled lo carb candy...

People should stick to natural whole foods, the less preservatives and artificial ingredients, the better! And yes, you can lo carb on whole, natural foods too!

Everyone should stay away from the genetically altered, artificially formed, color enhanced, preservative filled crap that is on the shelves now.

JMHO...
