Anyone out there try to eat low-carb or Atkin's Diet regimen at the WDW MGM "Hollywood and Vine Restaurant"?

What was your experience?

I am trying to list one restaurant per thread and talk about low-carb eating at that particular restaurant.

A lot of us on the DIS W.I.S.H.(We're Inspired to Stay Healthy) forum are trying to eat low-carb or Atkin's Diet at Walt Disney World.

I will list some of the low-carb foods from the menu below. I can add or subtract the foods as we learn more about the hidden carbs. Maybe we can even add the nutrient values to each food. You can use the links below to research the whole menu. Who wants to start?

Walt Disney World MGM "Hollywood and Vine Restaurant"

August 13, 2002, Thursday, 4:00 P.M.

When I called WDW dining to make my priority seating, I asked the castmember to please note "diet restrictions". They had various terms, but not Atkin's Diet, or one with no sugar, no flour, no rice, and low carbs all together. So they listed "other," which was fine because when I arrived at the restaurant, they had to ask me specifically what my diet restrictins were.

When I arrived at Hollywood and Vine, the Castmember Host had just opened the restaurant. She acknowledged my diet restriction and introduced me to my Castmember waiter named Patrick.

This was good service that I received from this WDW restaurant, but the MK Crystal Palace has a much better buffet. All the meats were cut and layed in cafeteria-style trays and replaced frequently.

Castmember waiter "Patrick" came out to my table and asked me what I needed, and I said that I could not eat sugar, bread, rice, starches. He brought out a side dish of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing for my salad and I proceeded to the one of two identical buffet lines on the left.

At the salad bar, I chose the Spring salad with various lettuces. Then chopped boiled eggs, quarter tomatoes, cold mushroom salad and slices of roasted pork. I drank water and Diet Coca-Cola.

After salad, I chose the sliced roasted beef, roasted turkey, green string beans, mushrooms, sliced peppers.

I requested some a side of horseradish from one of the servers and he prepared that for me.

For dessert I was going to have some strawberries with cream, but they only had strawberries covered in a heavy syrup, so I declined that. They did suggest some sugar-free brownies, but I declined because I wasn't sure and all I could think of was that it was made with flour.

I enjoyed this filling meal. Afterwards, I walked outside the on the restaurants raised porch and sat at a patio table and watched the afternoon parade. I didn't feel like standing and the five step raised patio was perfect to watch the parade as if I was standing. I could see the parade come around the corner and on the Mainstreet.

Here is a list of menu items that I wrote down:

Wow! Thanks for all of the details Ray. I know when I was at Hollywood & Vine I went straight for the dessert bar! I made the choice to go off Weight Watchers when I was a WDW. I'm so proud of you that you stuck to your plan. I think you should post this thread to the WISH board as well. I know there will be many over there who will appreciate this information too. Welcome back!

I was trying to find any one who did ok on weight Watchers while at any of the parks , opinions on the best and worst places to go , what ever. it isn't hard to follow but I am wondering more about counter service., sit down might be easier?( went to the wish place but was a little confused what it really was. seemed more like journals?)

You know Ray you are also helping out those that have had GBS as well with these posts! Thank you so very much!

What about the wonderful flank steak that they used to have? It's been a while since we ate there so I don't know if they ever have it now but I remember that it was so good, that it's almost all I ate. DS ate lots of meat balls but it's hard to know exactly what was in them. Did they have any cheese on the bars?

You are very welcome.

And no flank steak nor extra cheeses when I visited. They did mix one cheese with one salad.

I went through the buffet line and hand wrote down all the items that they had except for the dessert and children's areas.
