I am on a low carb diet for health reasons and I need help figuring out my choices using the Dining Plan. How have other folks on this WOE made the best of the dining plan without just eating bunless burgers, turkey legs and chicken ceaser salads??

Please help me! Also lc dessert option would be totally boss. Thanks.:dancer:

PS. I've done a search on the board and not coming up with much. I also went and read the one page (1) from allears.net but that can't be all can it??

I think because Disney doesn't provide the carb counts for most food that it is difficult to make recommendations other than the obvious choices. My child is a type 1 diabetic and although we do not do "low carb" we are interested in the carb info for the foods. I know that most of the "sugar free" desserts are definitely not low carb.

I would note the dietary restriction on any sit-down meals you have...as you are more likely to get more interesting choices if the chef is prepared.

I am also on a low carb style of eating due to diabetes. In the past, I have found that restaurants have no problem subsituting broccoli or other veggies for a potato or rice side dish and they will put sauces "on the side" if you ask. I just stay away from the bread as I usually do and use a minimum of the provided sauce. Now for the desserts, I will select the "sugar free" option, though I'm sure you know those are not generally "low carb". I will on occasion get a regular dessert and enjoy a portion of it:goodvibes, because with the amount of extra walking I do, it pretty much off sets the addition of those carbs.

At counter service restaurants, I do the bunless burger/sandwiches, or salads
or get meals that include chicken, potatoes and veggies and have them give me a double veggies instead of the potatoes with no problems.

Eating low or at least lower carb can be done with a few simple requests and you will find most places willing to work with you.

I've done atkins in the parks successfully. Cosmic Rays has the roasted chicken, Flame Tree in AK has the barbeque ribs and chicken. Sunshine foods in Epcot has roasted chicken. For table service its EASY. Ohana, tons of meat, Le Cellier, steak, CP buffet, fish, prime rib. There are tons of options!!!
I would carry beef jerky or slim jims, celery and carrot sticks with me for a snack, I would get terrible cravings and need energy and these worked fast. Just be sure to get a salad at each meal. I lost close to 50 lbs by the atkins diet and running 2 miles 4 days a week! Good luck and stick with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just saw a dessert thread and saw all of these awesome desserts and i was wondering (hoping) there would some type of equivalent.

Could they at least have low glycemic fruit that I can have? Strawberries, blackberries etc.

Seems like a waste of snack credits really since I can't eat any of it for fear of a diabetic coma! :scared:

I will be eatin low-carb when we go in December so I am anxious to see what everyone writes here. I do know that there was a website (maybe ourlaughing place?) with lots of dining reviews and they usually get the sugar-free desserts which often included berries with cream.

Well, I'm on Atkins religiously and I will be at Disney World in 1 week as part of a big family reunion vacation - and they all insisted we do the dining plan. So I will try really hard to report back here when I return with as much low-carb information as possible!

I am interested in this too as I have recently lost nearly 2 stone and this was done mostly by stopping eating bread and smaller portions. I am planning to where possible not eat the roll if I have a burger , eat more fruit and veg for breakfast etc . but I do plan on having a mickey ice cream every day as I have been dreaming of this for 2 years.....

If you have good self control, buffets are an excellent option. They always have a salad bar, vegetables, carving meat and usually some sort of fish/chicken that is LC acceptable. On the plus side, Disney buffets usually have strawberries.

I agree. When I have been successful on my eating plan at Disney, its usually been a result of more buffets when we do ts. You have to be disciplined but at the very least, if you do splurge, you can take very small portions of things. And they all do seem to have strawberries!

When you make ADR's, be sure and note you have dietary concerns. For sure at the ts places, they'll bring you fresh strawberries for your dessert even if they are not the menu, esp if you check your deitary needs when you make the reservation.

I also enjoy the salmon salads at Prime Time and Olivia's. I am sure other places have them as well, but those two were the ones I remember. At Prime Time it was a chicken ceaser with salmon instead of chicken, at Olvia's it was more of a field of green salad with salmon.

I do low carb for medical reasons, and after going through the menus, I decided not to even put notes on my ADRs. Any substitutions I have to do will be minimal - usually side dishes.

Almost every restaurant has a mostly-meat choice. Take a hard one like Tony's Town Square - it is mostly pasta, but in addition to salads, they have a pork tenderloin and a NY strip. You could also do the chicken parmigiana without the pasta (though red sauce is tricky - there can be hidden sugars there).

I also carry low carb wraps with me (4 net carbs per wrap), and if I need to transform a sandwich into a wrap, it takes minimal effort.

Hi,
My husband was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes three years ago so he has been on a low carb diet since then. We have been on the Disney dining plan and he has been able to eat low carb at most restaurants. They do offer sugar free low carb desserts..... some are not on the menu but if you speak to the server they will bring you something. You can ask for dishes with the sauce on the side and they will substitute your rice or potatoes with low carb vegetables or salad.
If he eats a meal with some carbs in it he takes Phase 2 carb blockers prior to the meal.
We have eaten tons of food at Disney and never gained any weight.
