My cousin is going with us in April and he is on a low-carb diet. We will be doing 3 character meals--Breakfastaouras, Crystal palace lunch and hopefully Cinderella's Royal table breakfast. I don't think these will be a problem. HOWEVER--counter meals and snacks may be. What are your suggestions for someone on a low carb diet? I've been looking at menus but am not sure exactly what he means by "low carb". He has struggled with weight issues almost all of his adult life and though I haven't seen him in over a year I have heard he is doing great so I don't want to do anything to sabatoge his diet. TIA for any tips or experiences you can share. I am " the planner" for the trip so I nned to know where we can eat that will satisify his needs.

On the Trip Report board I know ZerasPride did a trip report on one of her trips to Disney where she talks about eating Low Carb. Also over on www.allearsnet.com they have a whole page under thier eating section on Low Carb at Disney.

Hope that helps.

Hi Lisa (zeraspride) check in with you. Your cousin shouldn't have any problems even at counter service places. Like Carol so graciously mentioned, I have a trip report back from my summer trip with painstaking details about low carbing at Disney with all meals including snacks and such listed. It wasn't a problem at all.

One of the biggest pieces of advice I can give your cousin is if he wants a burger without the bun at a counter service place, order it that specifically and don't just throw the bun away after ordering it regularly. The reason is two fold, first they melt the cheese on to the bread so you'll end up throwing the cheese away to get rid of the bread and second, they almost always have to make it "fresh" for you so you have your cheese on the burger so your cousin will most likely have a fresh burger instead of something that was sitting under a lamp somewhere.

For sides at counter service places I always got the fruit cup instead of fries. It was really no problem at all!

I think you are a very thoughtful cousin to keep his special dietary needs in mind! If you have any other questions about low carb eating at Disney, just ask!

I don't have nearly as much useful information to contribute as you've already gotten, but I just wanted to say that I was at WDW in my 3rd week on Atkins, and I had no problems whatsoever. Even with counter service, if you've looked over the menus to be sure of what is on offer where, you can find super choices. I still dream of the salad at Columbia Harbor House with chicken and feta, and there are any number of places where you can get an outstanding caesar salad (just take out the croutons).

I ate fabulously, never felt a bit deprived, and lost 3 pounds in a Disney week. :earboy2:

Thanks all. I printed counter service menue from allears and am sending him them today.
