We just got back from the world for the Princess Half Marathon weekend. After reading Magic Band and Fast Pass horror stories, I thought I would post our experience.

We loved it all! Out of 3 adults using MB to charge, we had one failure at a food court. We never had problems getting in our rooms, into a park or through a FP line. We used My Disney Experience to make our FP reservations. We weren't heavy FP users in the old system so we didn't feel particularly restricted by only 3 FP a day.

A hint I had not read here before: if you fly into MCO and have your MB already, wear it. I felt like a nerd putting it on in the airport, but when we headed to the Magical Express area, the CMs saw our bands and waved us right along without a stop.

The only recommendation I have to Disney is to redesign them with a little digital clock. We all felt awkward with them on our right wrists and ended up leaving watches behind and putting them on our left wrists. It would have kept us from pulling out our phones to check the time as much. It's particularly important with the limit on FP that you keep up with the time.

We saw lots of CM standing waiting to assist with reserving FP and lots of lines. We also saw long lines for FP returns, but I really didn't get a read on why FP lines were backed up. I did occasionally see inconsistency in CM telling people all members of a party had to scan their MB in FP lines versus CM telling people only one member of a party had to scan. I don't know if the reason to let only one member scan was to get the line down faster or what. It was at the Safari in AK, and the FP check in line wound down a path to walking trail. That wasn't the only long FP line, but the only one where I noticed everyone not scanning their bands.

An off-topic item: even the disposable cups in the food courts are RFID chipped for a certain amount of refills in a period. I think it was 3 refills (4 total) in about 4 hours. Sorry if that's old news, but I didn't know it before hand.

are you better to wear them on your right wrist or left wrist?

I dont wear a watch, but have a "fit-bit" on my left wrist. I preffer to have something like that on my non-dominant hand.

I also found the Magic Band experience to be better than expected. Devices were comfortable and very convenient - my only negative was that it did take some effort to make sure the "mickeys" were lined up just right with the terminal. Having said that, it was liberating not to have to keep pulling out a wallet.

We also enjoyed them. I know that they aren't for everyone, but they turned out great for us!

Thanks for sharing your experience. :thumbsup2

nice to hear something positive. thanks for posting

Praise God! More positive responses!!! The negative people can't keep it to themselves.

I like that question someone asked, is it better to where it on the right or left wrist? I have a watch on my left wrist so I'm curious

My wife wore hers on her right wrist, and I on my left. Neither of us wears a wrist watch, but we went this route because they have scanners on both sides at each entrance and this allowed us to move through the scan points (one on each side) more efficiently.

Wear it wherever you are comfortable. Which arm being better depends on which side of the queue you enter, what you are carrying and in what arm, where you line up, etc.

For me, neither arm was comfortable. I hate "jewelry" and hope at some point there is another option of something I can carry and don't have to wear.

I also love the magic bands and the covenience they provide! The debate about the amount of fastpasses is another story. But I personally loved not having to dig around for my wallet at the counters or paper fp, especially when I was carrying my baby.

I'm wondering about the debate about the amount of Fastpasses. Do people want more than 3 a day or what?

Glad to hear you had a good experience! I've been lurking around these parts for a little while, and some of the nay-sayers are intimidating!

I just booked our July trip a few days ago, and am really excited about the MB. It will be so nice not to keep track of the cards and just wave my wrist!

For the person that doesn't like jewelry...could you possibly wear it on a lanyard instead of on your wrist? Since I haven't seen them yet, I'm not sure if that would work.

You may be able to do that. They snap open and shut.

This is great to hear! All the negativity surrounding them is pretty disheartening, so hearing positive reviews are awesome. Glad you had a good trip! :)

The good part is you don't really have to plan like crazy. If you don't make ADR's you will not starve in the parks! You probably won't get BOG and some of the character meals book fast but there are PLENTY of places you can eat that will still have seating the day of. The FP's can also be changed on the fly. I love that I don't have to carry anything. No key, no wallet, I don't even bring my purse ;)

I guess I'm a negative person since I didn't like the band (but I like the card that's still available and does the same function, so doesn't that make me positive?). But I found that with the band on the left arm you had to contort and twist your arm to get the resort room door to open, but with the band on the right arm you could scan and open the door in one swift motion with one arm, while you were holding things with your left arm. That was the only advantage of one arm over the other and the single, solitary tangible advantage of the bands over a card on a lanyard that I ever experienced.

I think that it depends on which way the door to your room swings. My wife had this problem on our last trip and I did not - her band was on her right wrist. The door swung in to the left, so it was easy for me with the band on my left wrist.

Yes, I didn't notice doors opening to the left at my resort, but it's whichever wrist results in your elbow pointing towards the hinged side of the door when you open it.

I agree....I also don't like things on my dominant hand (right) so wore on my left. Our room door opened to the right and I found the door frame would get in the way. I did have issues paying for stuff and found it was easier to just take it off. I am 5'5 but had to stand on my tip toes to get the mickey heads to line up properly. I found it was easier to have the mickey head on the bottom of my wrist instead if too.
