Loved Dec07 so much...we're going back for Dec08 12/6-12/14.

I graduated from nursing school in May of 2006. I had no desire for any type of party...all I wanted to do was take my girls to WDW. I started school when they were 7,6, and 2...about the time that all of their friends were making trips to Disney. I wanted more than anything to take them too. So, once I graduated, I lined up my first nursing job, in telemetry and ICU...and was told that with the training and the earned time accruing system that I wouldn't have a whole week accrued for about a year!?!:scared1: and  I spent a year learning and accruing time and money...and finally booked our first trip, last October for Dec 8-15, 2007. We stayed for 8 days at POR...and had the most perfect, magical, amazing time ever. My girls who were then 12, 10, and 6, were just amazed by it all. My only wish is that my older two had the chance to go when they were a little younger. But, oh well.
So, we're home on Christmas...all the Disney gifts had been opened. All the relatives want to see our pictures and our video...at least I'm sure they wanted to see...they really had no choice. Suddenly, I felt the need to just price another trip...maybe to see what it would hypothetically cost to stay at the WL, or the Poly...or any of the other beautiful places that we visited. So, I went to the Disney website just to play. I couldn't get their system to give me a ressie for the WL...which was really our favorite...just beautiful, especially all decorated for Christmas. So, I called Disney to inquire. I was told that the resort was already booked for the dates I was requesting...so, we play with some dates and still no room. The CM asked if I would like to consider another resort...so, I said the GF...which we LOVED but, considered that to be WAAAAAY out of price range. I said "sure," kind of shaking my head as I was thinking this was turning into a huge waste of our time. She came back with a price of $4200...for 7nt/8days...8d PH tickets. That was more than we paid for POR...obviously. But, considering that we would be on the monorail...and it was the GF...and there was room...and it would only cost $200...AND, at this point I was having severe Disney withdrawl...I BOOKED IT!!! I hung up and my DH was glaring at me and said "What did you just do?!?" So, I said "I just booked the same week for next year at the GF." He must have thrilled inside...he didn't argue at all. In the meantime...now so excited that we were going to Disney:yay: ...in only 300+ days...I found all of you who are just as enthused about the same thing...I had a place to go to chat with so many others who eat, sleep, and breathe Disney. I have learned so many things here. So, about two weeks later...I called AAA(something I learned about here)...and ended up making a second reservation, with a AAA discount for ~$3800. Now, we had two reservations...for the same week. But, the second was over $400 less. About a week later, I called Disney to see if I had a code/pin next to my name(something else I learned here)...I was told "why yes, you do," this time I saved about $1200...my reservation had been lowered to $3203!!! Same days, same tickets. :cheer2:
Got to run...DDs running around outside...should probably go out there, too...been here way too long this morning
Next up: airfare...a nailbiter...definately not as fun...still holding my breathe

At first airfare seemed to be something I didn't have too many concerns about. I had booked this trip in Dec 07...there was no airfare for Dec08, then. So, the day airfare began to be posted on Priceline, for Dec 08 was pretty exciting. Last year, we flew Delta so, I assumed we would wait for a good nonstop, price to come out. However, after checking multiple times per day for several weeks all non stop flights on Delta were continually over $1000. Other non stop flights that had started around $250 were creeping up to over $500 per ticket. The current gas prices seemed to be driving the airfare prices up and there was talk that they would continue to rise, and not come back down. I had found a non stop on Airtran and my neighbor who used to do bookings for Delta told me to just grab it. It was $229 and she said it probably wouldn't get any lower. So, I ran inside, jumped online and voila it was no longer $229...it had jumped to $339. I spent a couple of weeks scouring prices...Delta remained over $1000...other prices continued to climb and then on Sunday, June 22 my dream ticket fell to $249...non stop, leaving at the crack of dawn on our day of departure...and leaving Disney late afternoon, on our day of return. So, I grabbed it!!! I was so excited...one step closer to getting to Disney. We had airfare...there was no backing out now!!! Also, while I had been checking all of these flight times for Sunday, Dec 7th...our original day to check in. I noticed that prices were the same for the exact same flights on Saturday, Dec 6th. So, as soon as I booked the tickets, I called Disney to see if we could check in on Saturday, the 6th. There were no rooms available, at the GF. There was a room available at POR...where we stayed last year. So, I booked that and added a whole extra day to get there, check in and start our fun!!! But, what to do?!? We can't start using our park tickets because they are tied to our GF reservation...kind of dissappointed b/c it would be nice to have the option of going to a park if we are going to arriving at MCO at 9:57am. For now, I figure we can hang around POR for awhile, swim if it's warm, take the boat to DTD, eat at the Earl of Sandwich, shop, have sundaes at Ghiradelli's and then head back for an early night. We'll have been up since 4am, and we need to be up early on Sunday to tx to GF, get our tickets, store our luggage and get at the rope drop at MK. I can't imagine starting off the week anywhere but, MK.
The nailbiting came into play when there was talk about airlines...especially Airtran cancelling all nonstop flights. I have been checking our itinerary everyday...sometimes more than once, to make sure our flights are still the same. The return flight changed by three hours but, we have three additional hours...which makes it even better. Crossing my fingers that they don't change again...but, not holding my breath.
Then more nailbiting...the calendar for December got delayed. The 180 day mark to make ADRs was creeping up...and no idea what the park hours are. Then, the carpool that my daughter is part of runs into a snag. My ADR day to call in was June 9th...the day that my friend is supposed to be driving but, announces she can't and no one else can either. What if I haven't gotten through yet and I'm still on hold?!? My kids would be late for school vs. me missing out on getting reservations. But, of course that worked out, too. I called at 6:59am and 58 seconds...made my lunch ressie for CRT...on the day I was hoping for. I drove the kiddos to school...on time. Came home and called back to make the rest of the ressie's based on where, I thought we might be for the rest of the week. I actually had more trouble getting Le Cellier than I had for any of the other places.
Now, that we have airfare, and ressies...and the Dec calendar was posted. I can now make a solid plan for each day.
Next: MVMCP or not???

Hi Joining in your TP. Sounds like you are very excited about your trip!:cool1:

Thanks PAmouselover...glad to have you!!! I just found your PTR, as well.

Great to have you Bellasmommy! Wow, 11 days for you...sounds great!!!

Congrats on the code savings!:cool1: I stayed at the GF during the holidays a few years back and it was AMAZING! You are going to LOVE every second of your trip. December is, in my opinion, the best time to visit Disney. The lobby of the GF is magical. Make sure you take pictures of you and family in front of the giant Christmas tree.

We did MVMCP last year. My thoughts were: it was nice but, it was crowded. We did quite a few rides, though but, we could have done them anytime...without paying an extra $250. The decision came down to the parade...we could not see that any other time...would we miss it if we didn't go...probably. I decided that I didn't want to go back to WDW this year and end up feeling like we missed something so, I bought the tickets for the 9th. I loved that parade. Last year, we went to WDW with the mentality that this would be our "once in a lifetime trip." So, I felt like we needed to do it all...there was no question about doing MVMCP. We did that and what felt like everything else. I feel like we didn't miss anything last year but, we were constantly on the run...and at times, I mean running...sprinting...lol! This year, I don't feel that way. I think we know enough about what we liked and what we could miss and I'm excited that this trip should probably be a little more relaxed. But, that parade was something I could not miss. So, I bought the tickets...and walked around, for about a week after that singing "once upon a Christmas time, at Christmas..." driving everyone NUTS!!! The tickets arrived in the mail about a week later. It was becoming more and more official...we really are going back. I was getting more excited...about 150 days to go. My family was so excited because I finally stopped singing...now, that I have that song on the tip of my tongue...I may have to start again.
Ok, so two big things planned: MVMCP and CRT...the 3rd sort of big thing planned...IE. not move-aroundable, on the calendar...Le Cellier, which was a harder ressie to get than, CRT.
Next up: planning our days, around all the "non move aroundable" things!!! One of the most fun parts of the whole trip!!!:cheer2:

Hi, Your plans look great. Wondering how long does it take via the boat from DTD to POFQ?

We will be in the same parks a few days, you need to post pics so I can watch out for you!
On 12/7 we both plan to do MK and Epcot in PM
12/9 MK/MVMCP
12/12 epcot

Pamouselover...it takes about 20 minutes to get from POFQ to DTD on the boat. It is a nice ride...very relaxing and usually not too crowded. We found this to be a great alternative to the busses.

Bellamommy...isn't it a small world?!? I will definately post a picture...once I figure out how to do that.

So, it's October 9, what's done???:
I have the resort, the park tickets, the airfare, dinner reservations, the MVMCP tickets, a rough draft of the plan...
What is left to be done?:
still need to call for ME luggage tags, I'm checking everywhere for a free dining offer (I'm not holding my breath for that, though), I would like to pre buy the photo pass CD and set up a photo shoot, I would like to really figure out where in the resort I would like to request my room to be (it worked last year with POR), I would like to finish scrapbooking last year's trip before we leave for this year's trip, finish saving the rest of the $$$ that I am planning that we will need...just a few loose ends.
We have our countdown going...on my blackberry, a chain in my dd's room...there is no mistaking that we have 58 days to go!!!!
So, excited...I dream about Disney every night. I just can't wait to get there. I have actually started planning the next trip...Dec 26, 2010 - Jan 2, 2011...but, that's a whole other PTR.:lovestruc

57 days!!!

I started scrapbooking last year's trip yesterday...I have 57 days to finish 900+ pictures...there's a challenge!!! It is really going to be helpful to finalize this year's plan by doing this. I am able to look back to see where we went, when...ask myself if it was the best way to do things. I am asking myself...why did we leave MK on our first day to go to MGM? Why did we go to DTD, late night after MGM closed? Do we want lunch ressies...made for a late start to the day on one our days and we really weren't even all that hungry when we ate at the Whispering Canyon Cafe...great food, just not hungry enough to eat it. We did Blizzard Beach...a full day in the sun, and then tried to take in the entire MVMCP, the same night...not a very good idea. :confused3 You live and learn...sometimes the hard way. I am very excited to be starting this now. I am going out of my mind with anticipation of this trip; this will certainly help pass the time. Also, knowing that if I don't finish last year's book...I'll never get caught up after this year's trip. It will also help me to know what to take pictures of...I have 100 pics of "It's a Small World"...absolutely not necessary...this year I'll focus more on the scenery outside...the decorations, etc. I'll also know what I'll need for supplies...can't wait to go back to the scrapbooking store in DTD.

Hi :wave2: We're going Dec 6-14 too! Only 55 more days!! We'll be at the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge this time, but we stayed at the Grand Floridian the same week last year. The GF's Christmas decorations are the best...especially the huge gingerbread house. You will love it! BTW...I'm in MA too!

Thanks for joining in...it will be great to count down these last days!!! How strange...we both, were/will be at WDW the same weeks, two years in a row. We stayed at POR, last year. Loved it...but, loved the GF even more. We are already talking about going in 2010...and are thinking about the WL or BC villas. Wow, great minds think alike!!!
And...we're both from outside Boston?!? Are you flying out of Logan? What flights are you on? We're flying Airtran...at the crack of dawn but, still keeping my fingers crossed that that won't change...and for no snow!
I am currently scrapbooking last year's trip. I'm on day #1...arriving at POR. It is making me even more excited about this year's trip.
Do you have a PTR for this year...or a TR for last year...I'd love to read them.
Well, 8 weeks from tonight...we'll be there!!!:cheer2:

Hi Up late tonight. DH was watching the race!
You reminded me that I still need to scan 05 pics of blizzard beach for my scrapbook! Our you in on a photo share? I know there is a lot for Dec. I am looking for one for Jan. No luck so far.

I was up til midnight scrapping the first day of last year's trip. Making progress...verrrrry slowly. Need to hurry up but, not rush. LOL! On to day #2...MK. I am so disappointed about some of the pictures I DIDN'T take. I remember we were at the ropedrop last year...our first day, there was the whole little opening number they did on the roof of the entrance...I stood there and watched...with a tear in my eye. But, did I take ONE picture?!? NO!!! I am so mad at myself. I just finished our first day and already I am thinking that I missed many, a "Kodak moment." Oh well, I will definately make up for that this year.
What is a photo share? If it is what I'm thinking it is...I will be very excited!!!

Well, I have the pictures out for the first page of day #2...unfortunately no scrapping today...my neighborhood is having a pigroast!:crazy2: Oh my...I think I can actually smell it, as I type. I thought my DH was burning something but, he isn't cooking anything. Agghhhh!!! It IS the pig!!! I don't think I'll be joining in, in the actual eating of the pig. But, I need to go buy the ingredients for Vampire Bread (rolled up pepperoni and cheddar cheese inside bread...mmmm!!! Can't wait to try it...and we always have fun with the neighbors. Good way to spend another day...as we get one day closer to DISNEY!!! 55 days!!!

Great minds do think alike! Yes, we are flying out of Logan but we are flying Delta. Would have been funny if we were on the same flight. What time is your flight? Mine is at 7:10 AM which is pretty early but we've done earlier! I'm keeping my fingers crossed about the snow too, last year it snowed just a little the night before we left and I was in a panic! No, I don't have a TR from last year or a PTR but I am debating a TR this year. Who knows, maybe I'll do a last minute PTR! Do you have a TR from your last trip? You must be having fun scrapbooking last year's trip when this one is coming up pretty fast! I can't wait to try out the WL Villas. Last year we bought a WL DVC Resale so this will be the first DVC trip! You are already thinking about 2010! Isn't it funny that we all think about our next Disney vacation before the current one gets here? Anyway, I'll be here counting down the days with you!:yay:
