They were just starting to get bad when we were leaving for home. We were at the POFQ and the first 6 days, there was no sign of them, then they slowly started to appear over the next 4 days and were just getting bad as we left.

I suppose they should be around for the next week or two and then slowly dissipate. Pesky little critters!

I returned home today from a week stay at POFQ and the lovebugs were taking over! They are nothing more than an annoying pest. We had a couple on the plane home with us, but I doubt they last up here.

Lovebugs are just annoying little bugs that fly around usually 2 attached together. They don't have a problem landing on people, but they do not have the ability to bite or sting. They are heavy in March/April and Sept/Oct. They sort of look like lightening bugs.

How long until they are gone? They were really bad when we there a few years ago. One of my kids totally freaks out over flying insects. I hope they are gone before our trip.

They generally only last about 3 to 4 weeks before they wane out (sometimes less) but they're dumb as a doorknob and generally fly straight into people and cars and land on areas where they're sure to get squished (perhaps that's why there are so many of them... because nature knows most of them will be killed off).
More annoying than anything. They won't hurt you or cause any long term problems like bedbugs or anything, but they have a knack for flying under you just as you are about to sit somewhere and leaving a nasty red stain on your clothing.

I think they are generally around in late April and late September (lucky us, because that's when we always have vacation time, ugh! )

They will probably be around another couple of weeks. They were there like crazy this past week.

And these are the lovebugs if anyone hasnt seen them around. I hate when they land on me and dont move. Oh well they are dead now :thumbsup2

When I was there two years ago during the first week of October they were really bad when we first arrived, and by the end of our 8 days they were pretty much gone. One of the CM's told us they only have a life span of about 2 weeks.

So should I expect to see Lovebugs when we visit at the end of October or are we doing to get away with not having to deal with them?

I would think you would be fine at the end of October. My parents were down there during that time period and they didnt' see a single one.

Bring em on. I would trade you our "stink bugs" here in WV for love bugs any day. I'm so sick of stink bugs and nothing kills them.

I suspect the majority of these bugs will be gone in another week or two so late October will be safe.

I mostly hate when they land on my Ghirardelli chocolate sundae... buggers!

We just got back last night and I think the first day I noticed any was on Monday and it was just a few. We were at CR and only saw a few each day. We moved over to CBR on Thursday and they were everywhere by then. I could only stand about 30 minutes at the pirate splash pool at a time. They don't bite, but they are all over you especially if you have a drink etc... with you. I was sad to leave WDW, but happy to get away from those bugs. Last year we went a week later and only noticed a few at the beginning of the trip, so I had forgotten how much they irritate me. Oh, well, they sure didn't spoil my trip no matter how annoying they are.

They made it impossible for us to use our balcony at SSR. We now avoid the last week of Sept. due to the love bugs.

Apparently they like white things, which would include clothes. They are annoying but one good rain kills a lot of them. I've only seen them once and that was in mid Sept. To tell you how blond I am, the bus driver mentioned something about Love Bugs, and this was when the remake of Herbie had just came out and we were going by OKW, so I was looking for Herbie. Mind you I'd been up for 9 hours by then and it was only noon. So I was working on 4 hours of sleep too beside being blonde. :rotfl:

It is funny, we usually call them "telephone bugs" because they hook up!! :lmao:
They are a big problem here in east Texas where I live ....knock on wood I haven't seen any yet this september, I hope I don't see any when I go!!!
13 hours until we leave for the airport!!!:woohoo:
