Love it, or leave it?

We're torn and we need input from folks who know the fort...

We're booked for five night at FW, Dec. 15-20, and called today to apply the code. Saved us a few bucks ($28, I think from original ressie). CM said we could book a value resort for the same number of nights, tickets, dining, ec. for just $50 more...

Normally, we'd say no way because we love the fort and love to camp. But we know we won't spend much time at the resort (no matter where we stay) because it's our first-ever holiday trip and we want to do and see as much as we can. Plus, we're looking at a 10- to 12-hour drive one way and pulling a camper in December... Still, we don't know what to do...

Any advice???

We went last December before Christmas and Fort Wilderness was Beautiful!
My preference would be to camp. We did do some resort hoppin still did not see everything. I really can't help you with your dilemma, but I will try to presuade you to camp:rotfl: :rotfl: I prefer to sleep in my camper save a little bit of money on the food and I really enjoy the time I spend at FW. If I were going for a short weekend I would consider a resort hotel but anything over 3 day I would like to camp.
Good Luck!

I dont see how they can give you tickets & dining for $50.00 over a Campsite, but if that is the case I guess I would take the hotel. If the cost is about the same and you had tickets and dining in your package I would take FW over a value.

For 5 nites I would the values even tho we love to camp. The cost of gas would more then offset the differance & you can still visit the fort & see all the decorations. have fun.

No brainer for me, I would take the package at a Value.

Mousekeeping, meals, tickets, no camper wagging behind, better gas milage and probably more relaxed drive in general.

Wow, tough decision. We camped at the Fort the week before Christmas last year. It was really nice. But I have to agree, even though we love camping at the Fort, when we tow our camper, the gas mileage is half of what it would be just driving. It takes us 12 hours from Louisiana with the camper and 9.5 to 10 hours without it.

I guess we're going to call back tomorrow and try to move to Pop or one of the other value resorts...

To clarify, we had already booked a 4 night MYW package at FW with 5-day base ticket and dining. I called today to see if we could apply that general code (ZQH, I think) to our reservation just to save a few bucks -- in hopes of talking DH into an extra night:thumbsup2

The fabulous CM I spoke with ran the numbers for adding an extra day at FW and gave me a total for our site, dining plan and 5-day base tickets. Then, she checked the value resorts and said, with the code, we could stay there five nights with the dining plan and 5-day base tickets for just $53 more. I ran it again online tonight and came up with the same number she gave me, so I guess we'll be calling back tomorrow to try to change it!:wizard:

Here's hoping we aren't too late;)

We stayed at OKW in May and visited the Fort one afternoon. It just wasn't the same!:confused3 I don't really know how to describe how I felt except maybe to say that I felt like a visitor instead of like I belonged there. Something was definitely missing. I don't think I will ever do that again. If we stay somewhere else, I won't be visiting the Fort. It just didn't feel like home.

I can't wait for our December trip and 15 days at our FW HOME! :yay:

The first year we camped, we got rained out. It was pretty bad, kids got bit up bad by bugs so we moved to POR. We still had Hoop Dee Doo reservations
and even though we were gone only one day, it just felt different. We tried camping again and had a great week last year, and this year was even better. But I imagine the Fort at Christmas would be awesome. I would use 2 of your dining credits and book a night at the HDDR, that way you would probably feel more at home! Do they fix up Pioneer Hall for Christmas?? Do they add anything to the show for Christmas? Sounds like fun to me! And besides, you'll have a good time anywhere you stay at Disney.

Cheers!

Unless you have a pet you are wanting to bring, I say stay at the resort, as much as camping is a blast, I find it can be very tiring at WDW. That must be some great code, I say go for it !

I will lend you my special light and you can then decide if you ever want to sleep in a hotel again, whether it is a Disney Hotel or the Ritz. In addition, bedbugs are making acome back so NO THANKS! I will take my own bed, my own chair to sit and relax by my own campfire with special Pine Cones that burn Christmas Colors out in the crisp, calm, and peaceful night air over ANY Hotel Room ANYDAY. There simply is no comparison, especially over a value resort. To each their own. Enjoy!!!:thumbsup2

I wouldn't trade going in our RV for a Value Resort. Maybe for one of the Deluxe resorts but I don't know, I really like sleeping in my own bed. I don't have to worry about who was there before and what they left behind.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

I know that EXACT feeling!

Last Sept we took a couple only trip- kids stayed home with my parents. I know bad mommy and daddy, but it was our first vacation without the kids in 17 years and it was only for 3 nights-
so anyhoooo, we always stay at the cabins... LOVE them :thumbsup2 but I wanted to stay somewhere else since we didn't have the kids.
Booked AKL- checked in and I had the feeling of 'whatever'
My hubby noticed I wasn't acting like myself at Disney-
We decide to go over to the Fort to pick a ring our daughter asked for. As soon as we pulled in my hubby said the spark of excitement came out!
I felt like I was at Disney!! :woohoo:

I came alive when walking around there- hubby suggested we check out of AKL and check into the cabins... and we did! :dance3:

So my suggestion is if you love the Fort- don't bother trying to stay elsewhere especially a value resort.
