Firefly, Marmite is a yeast extract spread....and is an acquired taste

Marmite ran a very cool advertising campaign last year (or the year before). It had two versions, one was My Mate Marmite, the other I Hate Marmite with little joke scenes showing what extremes people would do to get it, or the extremes of what they'd do to get rid of it and had a catchy little tune. Hence all the references to 'mate'

Now that's confidence in a brand where you can run a campaign that jokes about people loathing your product, hehehe.

Marmite is a yeast extract product - it is made from the waste materials from brewing.

This is why there is a huge Marmite factory in Burton-on-Trent.

And it is absolutely revolting!!

I Looooooove it. In fact i am inpired to go and have some now. On toast , no butter (Weight Watcher...).

I have always loved it, and I too was a very fussy eater as a child. But marmite on toast, spread thick and washed down with apple juice, well that's lovely.

And it's definitely a good thing to eat when you're pregnant, as it's rich in folic acid. But it's very salty too, and I think I remember that you crave salty foods if you are expecting a boy.......

The other strong relationship I have with Marmite that's a throwback from childhood, is that if I'm ill, sick, hangover , whatever, it's often the only thing I can keep down. Maybe their next campaign could be Marmite - Kill or Cure?

As a child I used to eat it with chocolate cake!!! Now spread on toast with peanut butter sometimes, even a touch of marmalade!! I love it with cucumber, tomato, fried and boiled eggs - mustn't forget the marmite soldiers!!
