Love how DVC is continually changing our vacation style

We speak of Before DVC and Ater DVC in our household, and for good reason!

Before DVC, we were much more hurried, stayed off site because we also had to do Sea World and Universal as who knew when we'd be back to Orlando, lots of park hoppping, ate mostly CS due to time constraints related to health issues and spent all day and nights at parks due to offsite hotel shuttles = tired!! This also meant that we had to schedule rest days in between as we were exhausted as we have to travel in the summer as I am a teacher. Not the best way to experience WDW, but it was the best we had to work with at the time.

Ahhh, after DVC! Better accommodations, less rushed, annual passes, better eating as we now only eat TS (I also have allergies/sensitivities now, plus low blood sugar so we don't eat fast food, drink pop, etc.) and only do Disney = not as tired!

I am in the midst of planning our next trip for a few months from now, and our styles are changing again! We have decided not to park hop (our 4.5 yr old loves to park hop, but we spoke to her, and she is fine with not doing that) as our baby boy is a homebody like me, and we think it will be even more enjoyable for him to be in one park per day with rest periods in between (we always have a vehicle, so sometimes we like to go for drives or back to resort). By eliminating the annual passes and park hopper option, I have saved us over $450.00 by buying base 10 day MYW tix- this allowed me to add 2 days to our stay, and will pay for our Deluxe Dining Plan plus tips! We are also going to have more resort days and actually enjoy the beautiful resorts that we own at. Looking forward to: swimming, kids' playground, taking a carriage ride at SSR (hope they still do that), surrey bike and kids' activities at AKV.

Basically, we love our DVC because it allows us to continually adjust our vacation style according to our young family's needs, while not compromising on quality at all. We haven't thought twice since buying DVC about people watching while eating a gelato in World Showcase, eating a long, slow dinner while enjoying each other's company, swimming for hours at our resort or spending just a short amount of time at MK to watch the fireworks over top of our heads while gazing up at the castle. We never would have done any of these things before DVC, as we classified them as time wasters - now, it's these precious memories that make all the difference in our DVC vacations.

For those who are contemplating buying into DVC, I always think of the words of my very bright 4 year old daughter who said, "It's ok Momma if we can't do everything as we will be back next time to have more fun at the castle!" That, my friends, is why we love DVC - there will always be an opportunity to enjoy more magic the next time we visit as there will always be a next time!

Happy DVCing to all, Tiger :)

You did a very good job at capturing our sentiments exactly. I love the fact that my nieces and nephew get to take their time now, because they always know we can go back. In fact, two years ago we went for four days and the only time we left the OKW was to take the children (aged 8, 6, 4, and 2) to MNSSHP! They still talk about it two years later - "the time we went to Mickey's Halloween Party."

Look at these Happy children who only spent 6 hours at the MK!

Yep that is totally us too!! We never spend a whole day in a park. :thumbsup2 Although we might 1 day this June because we are traveling with friends who have never been there nor may never go back. Needless to say they want to see everything. We will still take breaks though!!

I'm so glad to read your post. With a young family life is busy and hectic. We had 2 trips to WDW pre-DVC and they were hurried and time was of the essence.:scared:

We really thought long and hard about DVC and came to the conclusion (hope) that Mommy and Daddy might get a real vacation if we joined.:cool1:

March 9-16 will be our first trip "home" and we are planning 3 park days, 1-2 waterparks and the rest of the time at the resort. I'm looking forward to sitting by the pool and having some time to enjoy the company of my family without feeling like the time at WDW is slipping away.

Again, as you so aptly stated, we will certainly be back- and each time we hope to have some fun, wonder, excitement, peace and magic!pixiedust:

I know what you mean, at least in my brain, I do. I am struggling in my planning for this first trip home in June. See, my brain says "We don't have to try to cram everything in." But I still find myself trying cram stuff into the plan.

Even dining planning is giving me the fits. I have made fewer ADRs this time, and am planning more villa meals... but then it becomes so hard to choose which ADRs to keep and which to change. I want to do them ALL! I am trying to end my addiction to the DDP. Yikes. I hope this gets easier to adjust to??
:confused3

Not only that, but I keep thinking of all the ways that we want to use our points, and have this natural urge to try them all. NOW.:lmao:

Of course, I keep thinking that it would be soooo much easier to try all of this stuff, if I only had about twice the points that I do. I am fairly certain that we will be in the market for more points in about 5 years, if not sooner.
:rolleyes1
Is there a Disney 12-step program??

I love your quote- DVC make everything less stressful even thinking about planning a vacation is fun not stressful because as you said it there is always next time to experience more magic. :goodvibes :goodvibes

Very well said.

I have come to appreciate the familiarity of the interiors. By going to different resorts we can enjoy different themes, style of communities, surrounding and nearby attractions and ammenities (including real beaches), but once you step into the DVC rooms or villas you know where you are, and you know it like your know your home. It feels like home. No surprises, just home. :goodvibes

So many of us have said the same thing from time to time.

It IS great to be able to be more carefree in our coming and goings to Disney. It is wonderful to say goodbye to those days of doing the parks commando style and instead come and go as we please.

I'm glad that you enjoy your ownership so!

First time back here as baby kept me busy yesterday!

javamom - Take a deep breath! I myself am a supreme organizer, planner and efficient dynamo whose DVC membership has calmed me down a bit, so there is hope - LOL! We also thought that we would only need 175 points for studio stays with 1 child, but God blessed us with a baby boy, so, we added AKV in July, and I just added 25 more points yesterday, so now we are good for awhile to spend 12 days in 1 bedroom villas with our 2 beautiful children during the summer when we have to travel. You will want to add on at sometime, so don't fight it, just figure out when it's best for your family - LOL! Re: Dining Plan. Part of our WDW vacations is the enjoyment of eating & relaxing, so we usually spend a good part of our days in TS restaurants (2-3 meals), but this works for us. I have to call this morning to finalize our Deluxe DP ADRs - that's a lot of ADRs, but we love it! We've eaten at almost every restaurant on property many times, and we never would have done this before, as my old way of thinking was that it took up too much time, even though my blood sugar was demanding it. Now, we love to explore new and varied activities, and don't think twice about it, so, there is hope for you yet. :thumbsup2 We don't really have a desire at this point with 2 small children to eat in our villas, nor fight the CS crowds looking for tables/standing in line (I can't really eat CS food anyway - we only eat very healthy over here), so we love eating at TS restaurants. You do what is best for your family and realize that if it doesn't totally work this time, you can switch it up on your next visit, that's the beauty of DVC!

Thanks so much for appreciating my words - I am so glad that others understand how grateful and happy we are to be able to be DVC members. It has truly changed our lives, as it has allowed us to enjoy our precious time together even more than before. We love our 2nd home, and all that it brings into our lives.

Happy DVC vacations to you all, Tiger :)
