Love/Hate of your dress

I had a love/hate relationship with my dress... well, I guess the 1st dress that I bought:rolleyes: - and it ended up badly...

I had gone with BG and my Mom to look at dresses before I purchased anything, so I knew which style of dress I wanted. I wanted a strapless dress, with a swept panel on the front.I had a dress picked out, tried on, and was getting ready to order it, but it was going to be discontinued, so I wasn't able to order it to size...

So, when I saw my 1st dress online, I had to have it. It was a David's Bridal, and when I called my local store they didn't have it. So, I had to order it from another store, without getting to try it on. It was such a great price, I couldn't pass it up...:confused3

When I got the dress in, I really liked it and was excited about having it. But, the more I looked at it, the less I liked it. In fact, the day we drove 2 1/2 hours to have it altered, I cried all the way home because I DIDN'T want to wear that dress....:sad1:

BG tried to console me, and said we would stop at a local store to see what they had. But, it was 2 months from the wedding, so I wasn't expecting to have great luck. When we pulled in the parking lot, there it was in the window! I tried it on, and BG said he HAD to buy me THAT dress!!! It was just perfect, it was the one....:woohoo:

So, I had 2 dresses. So, please make sure your dress on before you purchase it. I know I didn't lose very much money on the 1st dress, but it is just a pain now to have 2....:rolleyes1

This is my 1st dress...

wow... Well I picked out my dress and I dont want to check out any other ones b/c i am head over heels for it:hyper: but everyone has been telling me not to buy it now for I will change my mind.. But I have eyed this dress for over a year now.. I just hope I wont hate it by the time I get married, b/c I am ordering it this September

I thought I would have a love/ hate relationship with my dress.

I kept putting dress shopping off b/c I hate dresses and getting dressed up. My mom and I went to bridal stores for 3 weekends in a row, it was torture to me  Then we went to a Macy's and the consultant gave me a dress. I saw the price tag and refused to try it on. My mom told me to anyway. It was perfect! I loved it :cloud9: I walked out and my mom began to cry and said I had to get it. So we ordered it. This was last May...

Months go by and I am trying to remember what my dress looks like (I never took a picture). I start regretting spending more than double what I budgeted for the dress. I see everyone's beautiful dresses on here and wonder what they'd look like on me. In December, I went back to the store and looked at my dress. I still love it, I'm so happy :goodvibes

I think a lot of people know when they find "the one". Kind of like how you knew your DF/ DH was the one ;)

I have always been very happy with my dress choice. But, every once in a while when I see a particularly stunning wedding dress on this site, or in magazines, or on television...a part of me wishes I could have those dresses too! There are so many pretty, and different variations of dresses...that it seems a pitty that you can only pick one, to wear on just one day! :cutie:

lol...boy, do I know what you mean!! I'm getting married ( not the first time) on Halloween this year...In a small Victorian B&B on the jersey shore...28 of our closest in attendence...originally I thought a black dress would be so cool! we are using Nightmare Before Christmas loosely as our theme...

fast forward 6 months....my daughter says i definitely need a white dress...I've gone from black to white ...casual to well, a wedding gown! I bought mine on eBay also...just got it 2 weeks ago. I only paid $100 ..it needs to be taken in and I may have the seamstress add some bows down the back.

I admit, everytime I look at all the simply gorgeous gowns you are all getting, I am extremely tempted to give in, spend a gazillion $$ on something else.
BUT, I want something comfortable - most of our guests are going trick-or-treating afterwards! nobody has seen the dress because i want to surprise everyone! oh well, so sorry for rambling! I guess it is a love/hate relationship!

personally, i think when you see your new husband beaming at you, you will feel like a princess no matter what the gown- here's mine!

Your second dress is stunning - just gorgeous! The first is pretty but honestly I have to say it does not compare to the dress you wore! What a wonderful man to buy you your dream wedding gown!

I bought my dress too soon because it was on sale, and I didn't think I would find anything like it that would fit me. When it came down to 2 weeks before the wedding I hated it. I was in tears driving home from my fitting. I still hate it. Mom mother is living in a dream world and denies any of this happened, which makes it worse.

I tried on dresses for at least 6 months before I found the dress that I absolutely loved. I had a couple of others in mind but am very pleased with my dress. I must have tried on every dress in the store at least 2 or 3 times, then when I tried on my dress I just knew it was the one. I took pics. of all the dresses. I was so glad to find my dress.

You will know your dress when you don't have second thoughts about it and can't wait to wear it.

love it!

i'm so curious to see dresses that girls bought that they ended up hating

so much more interesting than the ones we all love

:)

Thanks Jen - it was my dream dress! We pulled into the parking lot and the dress was in the window. This was a Saturday - the dress had arrived that morning...;) I had it on for about 17 seconds when BG said he HAD to buy that dress for me... He loved it as much as I do...

Even DH knew it was the one.

I loved my dress but it was a hard decision to buy that one as it did not have a train on it! That was the flaw that i was not happy with. In hindsight though it didnt matter as i found it great to not to have to worry about it when taking pics on the beach or dancing at the reception or walking through epcot.

***Input from a bride who stills regrets it!***

I was married in 1983 and went gown shopping with Mom. We found the perfect "Cinderella" gown and I fell in love with it! We ordered it, but the price bothered me. It seemed so expensive! ($425) I kept second-guessing the price and ended up looking at another bridal shop and "settled" on another which was less expensive. ($325) I never truly  the dress, but rather went by price. To this day I regret not buying the original one and "settling".

My advice???

If you find a dress that is perfect...get it! Yes, we all have budgets, but you will always regret the choice.

If only I could go back 24 years and do it all over again! :confused3

(I am, however, thinking about a vow renewal at Disney for our 30th Anniversary in 2013. I'll definitely get the dress I want for that one!!!)

It's been great reading responses to this post. I bought my dress just last weekend. It was the first time I went dress shopping and I went into the store with a list of 3 dresses I wanted to try on. I only took 1 friend because I didn't want to be influenced by many conflicting opinions. Strange how things work out sometimes...

I instantly fell in love with the second dress I tried on. I thought it looked so great on me...at least that's what I thought. This complete stranger who was there with her daughter came up to me and said the color just didn't look right on me. I looked to my friend who just sort of shrugged and looked away. I thought they were crazy and insisted that I would tan and the cream would look great...but they, my friend and this complete stranger, talked me into trying on the last dress. Hesitantly, I did. While I was putting it on, my friend told the lady that I was getting married at Disney World.

When I opened the door to the dressing room stranger lady was the first person I saw. Her eyes got huge and her hand covered her mouth. Then, out of nowhere, she started balling. I...slowly...as I thought this was strange, walked out of the room and in front of the mirror. When I saw it I knew...this was the one. And stranger lady came up behind me and whispered, through tears, "You look like a princess in that dress...". Then I turned to my friend and we both lost it. And that was it. My fairtale dress. It had moved a complete stranger to tears. When I was standing there in front of the mirror I kept thinking "Wow, if this lady has a breakdown at the sight of this dress I can only think of how my mom will react! And my husband...".

And then I wouldn't take it off. I wore it around the boutique for the next 45 minutes trying on every veil and tiara they had. :bride:

No regrets here...

After looking at many wedding dresses, I bought a dress this past summer at a department store. It was actually a prom dress, but it was white and had a bit of a train so it made for a very nice wedding dress. It was also in the style I thought I wanted, with the wrap around the middle. I bought this dress hoping to keep wedding costs down.

8 months later, I was back in the bridal shop looking for bridesmaid dresses. There, on display, was a wedding dress that happened to catch my attention. It was a lot different from what I thought I liked but was so unique that I started to regret my first choice in dress. Of all the bridal shops I looked at, no dresses really excited me, but this one definately did. It also met my requirements of being fairly lightweight to allow for easy airline travel and I knew was a style that would look good on me.

I left the store, but kept thinking about the dress. I spoke to my MOH about it and she encouraged me to get the dress if I really liked it that much. I went back in the bridal shop to look at it again and was told that all dress orders were on 20% off but the sale ended in the next two days.

Finally, I broached my fiance about purchasing the new dress, thinking he wouldn't go for it since I already had a dress bought and because the cost was 4x what I paid for the other dress. The only response I got from him was "I was expecting you to do this". He was very supportive of my irrational choices and encouraged me to order the new dress. I wasn't able to try it on since the only size the had was way too small for me, but I have ordered it and can't wait to try it on.

I bought the first dress I tried on-- but I knew what I wanted when I was going in. DH and I had looked together on the Internet and when we saw this dress we just knew it looked like it fit my personality to a T. For my prom I wore an odd looking dress
ShaneMaggieProm04.jpg
---and when I found it-- I knew it was the one. So for my wedding, it was only natural to be a little different than your average body fitting dress. And when I found it-- I, too, knew it was "the one".

When i got to the store I brought photos of 3 dresses.. the one I absolutely HAD to try on-- and then others that I would try on just to appease myself in knowing that the original dress I chose would be the one. When I tried it on-- I knew. I didn't want to try on anymore-- but the lady insisted I do so... so i tried on two more and I was acting almost spoiled.. like 'Blah- another ugly wedding dress... I want to get back in my first one'.. and so I did. I just knew it was the one.

To this day I don't regret the decision one bit, and honestly don't believe I ever will. I love my dress so much. It really fit me and my personality well.
